They were idle yesterday so they “gained” a half-game on Houston and Seattle. I’m not sure how likely it is, but if they fall behind those two, that’d be 2011-level. If they fall additionally behind Toronto, and out of the playoff picture it’d be maybe the worst collapse ever?Rangers lose again. Six game losing streak now has Houston .5 back and Seattle 1 back. It’s crazy that the Mariners could end up winning the division.
Speculation is that it was from an accidental discharge, possibly by an undercover cop.
The latest in the season they've been in first in the last 20 years:Mariners were 10 games back in July. Tied for 1st now.
I love it. They are a ton of fun.
I lived in Phoenix for 10+ years when the DBacks were good and not so good (2003-2013 or so) and other than marquee opponents (yankess/sox/cubs/Barry Bonds) it's always like that. Biggest problems all come from the fact that it is always A hundred-and-fuck-you degrees outside during baseball season so you've got to be committed to the process to go. Parking somewhere and walking a block or two over in the heat before you get back in that sweet sweet AC. There really isn't a ton of stuff to do around the park beyond the usual couple of bars and restaurants so there's really not even much to make a whole day of it.I've been casually following the DBacks this year from afar and never really have before. The stadium often seems empty and silent. Is baseball in Phoenix somewhat in limbo? That seems hard to believe to me.
I don't think I noticed until just now - they're back! They've won 11 of 13 to re-take the 2nd WC.ARI was 46-30 on June 22, 98 win pace for almost a full half season.
Since then they are 11-29, 45 win pace for a quarter of a season, almost exactly the same as OAK’s historically bad winning percentage pace.
They are only a few games back of the final wild card because some other teams have cratered too but yikes.
I thought I saw the M's have the easiest schedule remaining in baseball?Mariners, Rangers and Astros each have 72 wins. Houston has two more losses. Yet, at least in the calculations ESPN used in its projections, the Astros have the best percentage chance to make the playoffs. I suppose strength of schedule is the difference-maker.
The AL West is going to be fun to watch the next 6-7 weeks
https://www.mlb.com/news/randy-arozarena-hbp-raises-heat-in-yankees-raysYankees reliever Albert Abreu began the eighth inning by hitting All-Star outfielder Randy Arozarena with a 95.5 mph sinker, the second time this year that Abreu has plunked Arozarena. It was also the fourth time in Sunday’s game, the sixth time in this three-game series and the 12th time this year that a Rays hitter was hit by a pitch from the Yankees.
That truly might be one of the best series this seasonThis is an absolutely thrilling play involved in two elite young stars.
