The Coney Island of my mind
Rocker's agent, Scott Boras, said in a statement that his client is healthy.
"Kumar Rocker is healthy according to independent medical review by multiple prominent baseball orthopedic surgeons. Immediately upon conclusion of his collegiate season, he had an MRI on both his shoulder and his elbow. When compared with his 2018 MRIs, the medical experts found no significant change. Kumar requires no medical attention and will continue to pitch in the regular course as he prepares to begin his professional career," he said.
Eh, among the choices available to those folks doing the IMEs, "No significant change" is one of the least inspiring options. Bullet: dodged.

I don't think I get the "Mets made no offer" bit. Didn't the Mets have to make an offer in the ballpark of 40% of slot in order to qualify for the compensatory pick next year?
Only if the player submits health records before the draft, which Boras clients evidently do not do (?).

My understanding is that Rocker declining to undergo a pre-draft MRI relieved the Mets of their obligation to offer a percentage of slot value in order to receive a 2022 compensation pick. It’s the Mets, though, so anything is possible.

Right you are---forgot that followed in the article.

In which case, the Mets might have decided that #11 next year is better than the prognosis for Rocker's career based on their own medicals? They just found out something that the nine teams ahead of them might have already known? Weird.

That’s a ridiculously cute cat.

Yankees security have as much range as Derek Jeter

Apparently Phillies prospect Daniel Brito collapsed on the field Saturday and has been in the hospital since, and has had two surgeries in the meantime. 23 years old, man, I hope he has a speedy and full recovery.

The Dodgers again? Are they going to try to work a deal to bring in Shane Beiber to throw batting practice?

So they're going to have a middle relief group of David Price, Cole Hamels, Danny Duffy, and Jimmy Nelson. Do I have that right? That seems a bit indulgent, no?

It would have been way way more impressive a decade ago, Price is meh, Duffy is hurt, Hamels we'll see. Nelson has been very good though.

Tatis Jr, still on the IL, was working out in the outfield today in SD. I guess they are thinking there would be less stress on the shoulder out there as long as he’s not diving for balls.

He has a career ERA of 3.00 and 9.0 K/9. He could give that a shot.

I'll always remember sitting through 17 freezing innings at Fenway and watching him outduel Darnell McDonald. I've never enjoyed hot pot more than when I went after that.

The Giants extended Brandon Crawford -- 2 years, $32mm. Deal is good for everyone -- short years means that it won't turn into an albatross, and he'll make more per year than his current deal pays.

As big a laughingstock as Davis had become, he did start that 9th inning rally that knocked the Sox out of the playoff race in 11. Lester and Bard the only two players still around from that game.

No offense but that’s an awful, terrible thing to bring up here.

Also fuck Carl Crawford.
Sorry, I only happened to stumble upon the box score after looking up Pivetta, which led me to Papelbon. Had totally forgotten he struck out the first two guys of that inning. Ugh. Still painful but it feels like 50 years ago. I recall being furious at Tito for not playing Lavarnway more down the stretch, oof.

Votto now with 2,000 hits. Looked like he was headed to the HOF until the past few seasons. Still might get there if this season isn’t a mirage. Solid career for franchise that hasn’t been relevant for a while.

He is also hitting an absurd .314/.407/.698 with 18 HRs since the sticky stuff crackdown. He has more HRs since June 23 than he has hit in a full season since 2017. His OBP dropped to mid .300s the last two seasons but is climbing this year, at .373.

The Jays have DFA'd Rafael Dolis. That move alone should shave a couple minutes off their average game time.

I know the MLB Pipeline Top 100 prospects list has been discussed elsewhere, but I’d like to briefly direct everyone’s attention to the Miami Marlins, who have the most prospects on that list. They’ve got a good, young rotation (with more pitching on the way), they have their outfield of the future basically in place already - Lewis Brinson is finally starting to play like the guy they thought they were getting when they made the Yelich trade - and Jazz Chisholm Jr looks like a star as well. The NL East figures to be a brutal division for a while with the Braves not going anywhere and the Mets and Phillies in win-now mode, but if you’re looking to adopt a secondary team/jump on a bandwagon, the Marlins deserve your consideration.

I acknowledge that the Jeter of it all will be tough for some of you to get past.
