Twins get a 3 run home run from Royce Lewis in the 8th inning to tie KC and gain a game on the Sox, and maintain the pace with the Guardians.
Despite Cleveland being in 1st place since the first day of the season, I still feel the division is Minnesota's to lose. The Guardians need Tanner Bibee and Gavin Williams to suddenly start pitching like they did last year and their offense has been sporadic at best for a couple of months... they need Kwan to be getting on base a couple of times per game again. Kansas City just doesn't have any depth. They have two bats and an awful bullpen. They made some mediocre level moves at the deadline that were turning out gold, but karma has caught up to them. Their schedule gets the easiest the last half of September, but I think the gauntlet they're currently in is going to leave them a few games behind the competition by the time they get there.
That said, with both Buxton and Correa on the IL (shocking, I know), I'm not sure there's any reason to think the Twins are suddenly going to play better than they have been. The Twins also have to go to Kansas City for three later this week and then four in Cleveland in mid-September… so maybe I've talked myself out of how things are going to play out and I just have no idea.
