Trevor Rogers with a less than stellar first game for the Orioles

After Corbin Carroll led off the game with a triple and scored on a throwing error, D-Backs go back to back to back. 4-0 and still no outs.

Ohtani stole 3 bags tonight to get to 31 on the season to go with 33 homers. He’s the 3rd fastest to 30 homers and 30 steals in a season and has a legitimate shot at 40-40 and an outside shot at 50-50 which is insane.

They’re up to 19 in a row now. Truly incredible. They may lose 130 games.
Looks like the first team with two 14 game losing streaks since the Braves lost 14 and 15 in 1935. The Braves also lost 14 and 16 in 1911. I can't find any other teams with multiple 14 game losing streaks in the same season.

T-7th worst losing streak on record. None of the teams ahead of them have a 14 game losing streak, too.

The 1961 Phillies had a 23 (record) and a 10 game streak, so the White Sox have tied them for top two losing streaks combined.

Ohtani had another homer and stolen base tonight. He’s now leading the NL in average, homers, and 5 RBI behind Ozuna.

He has a chance at 40/40 and the Triple Crown. That’s bonkers.

A nominee for the worst mid-inning pitching change of all time tonight:

BAL up 1-0 in the 6th on TOR, and reliever Burch Smith gets the first two outs. Vlad hits one hard and admires it so it is just a single, and Brandon Hyde goes to Gregory Soto.

So two outs, man on first when Soto comes in, TOR follows with:

1B
HR (3-1 TOR)
2B
IBB
double steal
2B (5-1 TOR)

Until finally he strikes out the #9 hitter. Eventual final score, 5-2.

Orioles are getting the Jackson Holliday they thought they were getting back in April, he's at .375/.444/.917 with four HRs since getting called back up.

This Padres/Pirates game is wild, SD scored 3 in the top of the 10th and now are only up 9-8, runners on 2nd and 3rd, no one out.

The umps must have gotten a memo to call defensive interference on anything close this year. But that one is ridiculous. The rule is quite specific that you can't drop your leg to block the base. The base was not blocked.

The Padres are 15-3 since the break. In the first wild card spot and 2.0 back of LA. The NL West is suddenly a dog fight, with Arizona playing well too.

Twins just swept a doubleheader against Cleveland, who have lost 7 in a row. AL Central is now a race.

The Padres have been losing in the 9th the last three games and have won all three. That can’t have happened very often before, especially by a road team.

Jackson Merrill hits another clutch HR to tie the Padres game in the 8th inning. Padres win in 10, 9-8. Merrill has a 1.625 OPS in his last 7 games. Just an unreal week for him.

The Twins loaded the bases against Emmanuel Clase with no one out, trailing 5-3. Strikeout. 4-6-3 Double-play. After taking the first two of the series and extending Cleveland's losing streak to 7, they make up zero ground on Cleveland this weekend and lose the season series (potential division tie-breaker).

Another brutal loss for the Braves, up 8-2 in the 8th, COL scores 7 times in the 8th and wins 9-8 without even batting in the bottom of the 9th.

Seven-game losing streak to the Padres and Dodgers drop the Pirates into the NLC cellar. Blown saves and crushing errors have killed them, only pointing out how thin the margin of error is for teams as thin as Pittsburgh

The Rockies are the first team to trail by 6+ entering the 8th inning and win without needing to bat in the 9th since the Mets did so on June 30, 2000. New York was down 8-1 entering the 8th and won 11-8. The losing team? None other than a repeat of today's victim, the Braves.

Shades of the Red Sox: Seattle has man on third with two out, Arozarena his a three-hopper to short that Lindor can't complete. Run scores to make it 2-0. Next pitch .. Raleigh with a massive bomb to right, and it's 4-0

Now 10-1.

Seattle would be such a dangerous team in the playoffs if they got consistent offense like tonight. They might have to win the division to make it with all the teams ahead of them in the wild card.

They move ahead of the Red Sox by a half-game when they finish this off tonight; would be 2.5 behind the Royals for the third spot

FG gives them 45% to win the division, 13% to win a WC, so I think you've got the math right. Also, looks like there's a 85% chance that the two byes go to the East & Central, so the WC series will likely be hosted by ALW winner and ALE runner-up. The 2 visiting WC teams, in order of FG projections, would be MIN, KCR, BOS, ALW Runner Up, TBD, TEX, DET, TOR.

Should I be embarrassed or proud that I remembered Jalen Beeks as he was warming for the Pirates.

Fun battle between Sale and Snell. Sale has 12k through 7 but is probably done at 107 pitches. Snell had a no hitter into the 6th but came out after two hits and 114 pitches. Still scoreless in the 8th.

Sale also caught a wicked lime drive aimed at his belly. I expect if he was still in Boston that he’d miss time for a severely bruised hand after seeing that play (on SC Top10). I know I’d be crying in pain if it was me,.

That screamer that Sale caught was marked at 104 mph off the bat. Good for him he ended in great fielding position after his delivery. Only had to move his glove a few inches. Still he got knocked down off the mound but ended up with a smile of relief.

Yordan Alvarez broke the jumbotron at the trop in BP and the whole thing's glitched now.
