Now Verlander is getting knocked around in Game 2.
Verlander has been a complete dumpster fire this year with an ERA near 5. Between his contract and the Miggy extension, I think the Tigers might be in for a rough go of it in the not too distant future.

AJP grounds into an inning ending DP with the bases loaded in extra innings. His failures are far more entertaining when they're aren't in a Red Sox uniform.

Gave up a HR to Hamilton, and has a 1 & 3 with one out jam right now.

EDIT: Got out of it.

Soler homers in his first AB. Hard not to be excited about the kids on the Cubs. Hope they can all grow up quickly and win one for my grandma, closing in on 90.

When they sign Lester and Sherzer this offseason, look out.

Lester pitching bottom of the first and Pujols gets a base hit to right. Reddick, who wasn't playing very deep, charged the ball and tried to throw him out at first. So, Albert gets all pissy, glaring at Reddick and then talking a blue streak to the A's first baseman. "Your RFer has the nerve to try to throw me out and take my hit away." Pujols has become a giant entitled dick, I think. And for what, what he did for the Cardinals?

At the Mariners game tonight and I feel like this might be the start of the game where King Felix gives up his grasp on the AL Cy Young. Hasn't been the same his last three starts.

Maybe he's been watching too much Harold Reynolds. (What am I saying. Any amount of Harold Reynolds is too much.)

Tigers losing 5-0 today. Cabrera, who is slugging .336 in August, not in lineup. He's gimping his way through a second straight season. Sad to watch him hit. All arms, no legs. Power is diminished. Big problem for Detroit as it attempts to stay in playoff race.

Remember when Matt Kemp and his 923 OPS since the All Star game was a washed up albatross contract?

Back to back homers in the 7th off Lester on 90 and 91 mph fastballs. I'm concerned (again) about his fastball velocity. Concerned as a guy who would like him to come back (or do I if the FB is going?).

Scoring problems? They sure do. The murmur about missing Cespedes has turned into a loud roar.
Brandon Moss turning into a pumpkin has hurt as much as Cespedes leaving.

California. Duh.
Dodgers-Natstown is crazy.

-Dodgers led 2-0 into the 9th, Jansen gives up 3 to seemingly lose it, then Werth drops a fly ball with 2 outs and the Dodgers tie it.
-Both teams blow chances in the next couple innings, including the Dodgers leaving them loaded in the 11th.
-The Nats get 2 in the top of the 12th, then Crawford homers to tie it again at 5.

On to the 13th...

A's are so frustrating. Just grounded out twice in a row to 3rd base with the base loaded and nobody out. No runs scored, inning over.

Jake Peavy waited out about 1 3/4 hour rain delay that hit after the third inning, came back out and has allowed 0 ER (2 unearned) over six. Difference in the leagues. Wait, he's facing the Tigers tonight. Just one game after one game after one game, but he looks fantastic in the last month or so.

Scott Feldman, now at 113 pitches, is going for the CGV over the A's. Will he get Bogar'd.

Reddick ties it up with a double. Lowrie can win it with a hit. Chad Qualls is the Stros closer!

Lowrie did it.

4th blown save for Qualls against just the A's!

Watching the A's right now is like watching a slow motion trainwreck. I'm having flashbacks to 2012 here.

Today's game was depressing. Top 9, Oakland leading 3-2, Astros at bat: Cook comes in. Walk, foul-out, walk, walk, then Cook gets pulled. Sacrifice fly, intentional walk, Dexter Fowler walks in a run. Oakland loses, 4-3.

I watched that. Hindsight is 20 - 20, but Beane and maybe Melvin apparently felt that they had enough offense when letting Cespedes go. Problem is that a lot of the heavy lifting guys in the first half were unproven or career minor leaguers or career mediocre hitters that turned back into pumpkins. Moss, Norris, Vogt, Crisp, just about everybody except Donaldson has fallen off a lot. Moss has been the worst. This is not to say that Cespedes would have saved them either. They also have some poor hitters that get regular playing time like Callaspo and Sogard. Ugh. The "offense" Melvin sends out every day is atrocious.
