Wondering if we couldn't have a thread dedicated to up-to-the-minute experiences/warnings with actual web experiences. Feel free to delete, or move elsewhere...

Phishing emails (yesterday) from Capital One credit card. Very well done, including account information and balances...possibly a result of the Home Depot hack, since I don't use Target or Lowes. Beware.

Anyone get something funny from CitiCards?

There's been a definite uptick on Indian people calling people in the US saying their computer is infected and sending out data.

Then they ask you to log onto their site to fix it. And away you go from there!

I know 7-8 people who've been called in the last month.

I would have thought this was clearly understood:

No matter what email you receive from any Bank or Credit Card company, even legit ones NEVER NEVER NEVER reply or respond via any link provided in the email. You undoubtedly have the legit links to all your accounts in bookmarks, it's, what ? 2 extra clicks to log in via your own link.

I've actually noticed that recent emails from my bank, alerting me to new statements or some other account activity, just instruct me to log on to view my account. The emails don't provide a log on link within the email for me to do it, forcing me to go a browser and accessing the site via bookmarks. Not sure if that's a one-off or becoming an industry best practice.

Had a bunch of people ask me about an e-mail from Apple about resetting their iTunes/iCloud account with a very professional looking site.  Thankfully no one clicks on these things without asking me first but I must say this one looks good and could fool people who recently had contact with Apple or downloaded the beta of Yosemite.

This probably isn't new for many of you, but since becoming a Mac user five years ago, I haven't worried about malware and viruses at all. Life has been good. Then, today, I got nailed with this:

Though I've done nothing illegal in my boring post-graduate years, my Catholic upbringing implanted a panic of guilt trigger that erupted for a few moments... you know, until I saw the CVS and KMart logos.

Rules for using online unauthorized feeds for sporting events:

The "best" sites for this change every year but some rules are universal:

Many/most sites request/invite you to download their app or imply you need to do so... NEVER EVER DO THIS. The feeds on these sites can all be seen without downloading their software, which in most cases is just a standard browser 'infected' with at least adware/annoyware.

1. Your first choice at any site should be a Flash feed, which requires nothing except that you have Flash installed. NOTE: SOMETIMES A BAD SITE WILL POPUP AND INSIST YOU DON'T HAVE THE LATEST VERSION OF FLASH AND REQUEST YOU DOWNLOAD IT..VIA THE LINK THEY PROVIDE.  If you're stupid enough to fall for this, you're hopeless and just give up now.

2. Some feeds require StreamTorrent, which is open source. DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANY VERSIONS OF STREAMTORRENT AT ANY OF THESE SITES, THESE TOO HAVE BEEN MODIFIED TO ANNOY YOU. Google it and acquire/install it from free archive sites like softpedia etc.

3. These sites are infested with ads, the only way you should go near them is with AdBlock installed and running on your browser, I prefer AdBlock+, despite the fact you have to actually check one whole box in the setup to block everything.  I can't even begin to imagine what these sites look like if you don't have it installed...

REPEAT: YOU SHOULD NEVER DOWNLOAD ANYTHING FROM SUCH SITES...JUST LINK TO ACTUAL FEEDS.

All that said, the best site I've been using all year is: http://www.day.to/

The interface is horrible, it looks like you can't find anything and very little looks available: The trick is just insert the team you're interested in in the yellow search box at the top right... for example "Yankees"...you get an immediate list of all links currently on or scheduled for the next few hours.
No infections, no issues, reliable good quality feeds.

Got attacked by the securepaths virus on my Mac. Very little information on the web on how to rid your computer of it and a lot of scary stuff - undetectable by anti-virus programs, slowly corrupts your entire computer, steals your private info, etc.

Thus far, I reset Firefox, blocked all pop-ups, and downloaded sophos and ran a scan that turned up no threats. It's only been 90 minutes but so far it hasn't come back - I think.

Anyone ever have this?

I just stared having a problem with tinypic.com on my iPad. I have this ad that I can't get rid of. It says it's from AdChoices. With the research I've done it doesn't really help me with getting rid of it on the ipad. And since this has happened when I try to upload pictures to tinypic I get a 538 error but I have no problem uploading on my laptop. Any suggestions.
