I'll give the TBS guys credit for one thing: they were silent for a couple of minutes after it was over, letting the pictures and noise tell the story. That was rare, and cool. Also, pretty cool that SoSH generates 1300+ posts for a non-Sox game. What a game.
Yeah, for all that we complain about the media there's a reason we still watch sports, and this was a fantastic example. For a moment, as blind and naive as it may be, you get to forget steroids, concussions, Hernandez, and Rice in the moment and just watch people do what they do better than anyone else. Silly? Yeah. Amazing? Absolutely.

I think KC matches up better with the Angels than Oakland, they're certainly healthier.

The pen was spent and Lowe was pitching on two days rest.  Tito needed a bridge to get the team through the middle innings.  The problem is he got Pedro up too early, because Lowe gave us more than any manager could have reasonably expected.

You pretty much just outlined exactly why a lot of people are rooting for KC. Underdogs are more fun to see win because the odds are stacked against them; it's much of the reason the general population rooted for us vs the Yankees in 2004 and why they hate the Yankees, Lakers, Patriots, Duke, etc.

I guess I see your point, and I like a good underdog.  I just saw this game as the two best underdog stories playing each other, so there wasn't really a top dog to root against.

Regardless, KC is pretty fun to watch, so I'll be rooting for them next round.  At least Shields gets another shot at not-sucking.  And yeah, Frat, a Pittsburgh-KC world series would be incredible, not least for the great ballparks involved.

Just hire Pedro to break down every sport. The guy gives absolutely zero f's and is a genius. Rich man's Charles Barkley.

Meanwhile Pedro Martinez is crushing the postgame analysis, as if this night weren't great enough.

Good God. Comparing Pedro to Barkley is like comparing Feynman to Clark Stanley.

I'm reading the post-game thread over at Athletics' Nation right now and it's pretty funny how many of them hate Jon Lester after this.

Come home, Jon. We appreciate you more than they ever could.

He can't hear them, he's got his World Series rings in his ears.
Imagine the despair from that fan base if Lester returns and he and Yo lead us to another ring in 2015.

Truly. The A's were a pretty pathetic ballclub for the last two months, and Lester one of their few good players. Beane overestimated his team.

Nah. They are like the NCAA tournament. Just when you think it's getting boring, something happens. The MLB playoffs always deliver.

Incredible column on tonight's game written by the Kansas City Star's Sam Mellinger. Amazing he wrote this on deadline, and well worth the read:

This was more than a baseball game, and even more than a playoff game. This was something more like group therapy, Royals fans emptying a generation of angst into Kansas City’s wildest sports night since at least 1985. Cars parked on the side of Interstate 70, just to watch the crowd before being shooed off by the authorities.

Inside the stadium, the crowd gave this the feel of a night 29 years in the making, the LET’S GO ROYALS chants starting well before the first pitch and carrying through the game. Filling 12 innings with noise wasn’t hard for a crowd that included fans whose parents met at a Royals game, parents who were unborn in 1985, and old-timers who had to wonder if they’d ever see anything like this again.

The Royals are not just a playoff team now, they are a winning playoff team, and doesn’t that sound so much better?
