They really need to amend the CBA to allow DoPS to fine up to % of salary, not a $ max. The gap between a $5k fine and 1 game is HUGE for a guy like Marchand, and the appropriate punishment usually falls in that vast zone of unavailable punishment. Marchand makes $60800 or so per game. Fine him $30k of that. Maybe he'll listen more.

Between here and everywhere.
Sedin twins announce that this is their last season in the NHL.

May they ever be remembered for the absolute pantsing on all levels administered by one Bradley Marchand and one Timothy Thomas in June 2011.

I was kinda surprised when I read this, but it kind of makes sense. They can still play a bit, but they don’t have many options. They could re-sign in Vancouver and play through a rebuild, but it is hard to see any scenarios where they play elsewhere. They are a package deal, and I don’t know who has 2 openings and has $10-12 million in cap space to bring them aboard.

He’s forfeited about $900K in salary over the years due to his suspensions, and has been fined another ~$20K for other incidents.

I get what you are saying, but I think he is what he is at this point. They can fine and suspend him all they want, but he’s not going to change.

In the simulacrum
Ironically, while Haggerty is a clown, the essence of this idea is not a bad one. Throughout all these injuries Marchand has seen just a shit-ton of minutes. If they win tonight I think it would be well worth it to sit him for the two weekend games.

Well, that’s kinda my point—of course it makes sense to sit your overworked stars if the remaining games don’t impact playoff seeding. This isn’t some grand revelation.

Not a Canuck or Bruin fan but have a lot of respect for how they Sedins have played the game. Something special for them to have played their entire hockey career from Youth Hockey to their final days of players together The ended their final home game in great style with Daniel scoring the winner in OT on an assist from Henrik, Here is a video on the goal plus an after game fan reaction.

The HHoF should induct them in 2 different years just to fuck with them.
It's possible I'm a bad person.

Oh they should definitely do this, but not tell them and then have Tim Thomas come flying out of the wings and drill Henrik when he tries to get on stage with his brother.

As a hockey fan who can appreciate the excellence of players no matter who they play for, I find it difficult to understand the negativity towards them unless you are all joking. Both on and off the ice the twins showed class and sportsmanship. The work they do for the Children's Hospital in Vancouver is outstanding.

Everyone is just having some fun at their expense because let's face it, it was hilarious the way they were man handled in that series. However anyone that thinks that these guys shouldn't be in the hall of fame either really hasn't paid attention to the league enough to offer a valid opinion on the topic, or are just being disingenuous because they like making fun of them.

Part of the reason the Bruins championship was so glorious to watch was because we had to go through Daniel and Henrik Sedin to do it. We give them light-hearted ribbing because the B's physical style of play really did disrupt them during the B's wins in the finals, and both Thomas's shove on Henrik or Marchand's speed-bagging of Daniel were really moments in the series that were mirocosms of the bigger picture.

In a major sport, at some point in the future, there will a pair of twins that are as transcendent as the Sedin's were, and play their entire careers like the Sedins. We may have to wait decades though. As a fan of hockey, they were FUN to watch.

I hope we can find a way to shit on that Vancouver team forever but also still appreciate how great the Sedins' careers were, and what great guys they seem to be.

Not NHL, but not really sure where else to put this. A bus carrying a junior hockey team in Canada had a collision with a semi-truck tonight. Numbers are non-specific right now, but most reports are saying multiple fatalities and injuries. The way authorities are talking, it sounds really bad.

Humboldt Mayor Rob Muench told CBC he was devastated.

"It's going to hit the community hard,” he said. “It's not a good day for Humboldt."

I think the Sedin's were the perfect antagonists for that Bruins team. Highly skilled non-physical vs that very lunch pail bruiser type team. I don't think anyone here has real hatred toward them. Now Burrows...fuck that dude.

Between here and everywhere.
Milan Lucic finished the season with 1 goal in his last 46 games. 10g, 24a, 34pts on the season. All that production with a 53.5% zone start.

Bruins certainly dodged a bullet with that contract - and here's where the remnants from that deal stand in regards to the Bruins.

Jakub Zboril (the #13 pick from LA) - Not done much yet. May end up being a solid back end Dman.
Sean Kuraly (acquired for Martin Jones, who was acquired as part of the initial trade) - 6G 8A in a high energy 4th line role. Great player for the price.
Trent Frederic (acquired with the #29 pic from SJ/Martin Jones trade) - currently looking like an absolute steal at the end of the first round. Potential to be a #2 C.

BOSTON - Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced today, April 10, that the team has signed University of Minnesota-Duluth forward Karson Kuhlman to a two-year NHL contract worth an average annual value of $750,000. Kuhlman will join the Providence Bruins on an Amateur Tryout Agreement for the remainder of the 2017-18 season.

Kuhlman served as captain of Minnesota-Duluth as a senior in 2017-18, tallying 13 goals and seven assists for 20 points in 44 games. The 22-year-old center was named the 2018 NCAA Tournament MVP after leading the Bulldogs with a goal and an assist in the team's 2-1 victory over Notre Dame in the NCAA Championship.

I think winning the frozen four mvp, being the team captain of the winning team, and being an UDFA senior makes a 2 year, 750k/yr deal an unbelievably reasonable “ok, you get a shot” deal.
Sweeney has been killing it with the talent pipeline.

Acciari/Kuraly type is probably best case scenario.
Outstanding. Part of good cap management is bringing in guys like this to challenge for bottom 6 roles. It creates good competition on the roster as well as ensuring that you never have to overpay the Campbell's and Paille's when their deals are up. Cycle in the next hungry players on ELCs.

Agreed completely. Nice little move that could help provide depth on the bottom lines.
