The Cubs outscored the Pirates 24-4 in the last two games and they went 1-1.

The Reds snapped their 11-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over the Cardinals. They had scored 20 runs during the 11 game streak (or one less than the Cubs scored on Saturday).

Great pitchers duel in Philly between Laurer and Nola.

Or is there an apostrophe in pitchers duel?

I mean yes that pitch is a ball, but it's nowhere near the most egregiously bad call we've seen mentioned the last couple weeks.

Presumably waiting to scream at an umpire after an April baseball game seems like a sad existence.

Well ... what made Angel's game extra bad was the combination of missed calls and inconsistency. Just missing balls and strikes is only one dimension of being bad.

I scrolled through yesterday's ump scorecards. Angel was the worst in Overall Accuracy (he at 88%; someone else had 89%). But he was also the worst in Overall Consistency (he at 88%; next closest at 90%).

He also wasn't the worst in Overall Favor. He was at +0.77 runs for the Brewers. Lance Barksdale was +0.79 for the Marlins over the Braves, Jerry Layne was +1.07 for the Astros over the Jays, Dan Merzel was +0.92 for the Cubs over the Pirates, and Scott Barry was +1.09 for the Royals over the Mariners.

I didn't watch the game and AH is frigging horrible...but that was not an egregious call. I'm assuming he was horrendous the entire game.

The phrase you are both looking for is "the straw that broke the camel's back". It's never just one call.

Yup. I think it was Friday's game against the Rays where Vic Carpazza had a fairly large 1.83 runs impact and 10 missed calls, but they tended to be in the same spot if my memory serves. But now look at Hernandez' card from last night and he is missing everywhere.

Here is the Carpazza scorecard. Almost all the misses were low-inside to RHH. I think players can adjust to that and not freak out too much.

Won today to win their 6th series in a row (first time they've won their first 6 series to start a season); including taking 3 of 4 from the Giants (who're 12-2 outside of games vs the Mets)

Also hot for a different reason - 3 more Mets HBP today, including Alonso in the head (again), making 15 HBP on the season (4 more than the next highest team, San Diego, at 11)

Mets starter Bassitt is blaming MLB & the baseballs:

Bassitt blamed the baseballs, which he says are "all different."

"It's extremely annoying to see your teammates constantly get hit, and if you get hit by certain pitches it is what it is, but to get hit in the head the amount that we're getting hit is unbelievable," Bassitt said. "I had some close calls tonight, and I've been hit in the face [by a line drive] and I don't want to do that to anybody ever, but MLB has a very big problem with the baseballs. They're bad. Everyone in the league knows it. Every pitcher knows it. They're bad.

"They don't care. MLB doesn't give a damn about it. They don't care. We've told them our problems with them, and they don't care."

I should say I was wrong in my last post - that HBP number didn't actually include the current game, so including the 3 from last night and 1 from today the Mets have been hit 19 times

I don't know why it's so high, but they definitely have a decent reason to be mad

Angels lineup is kind of scary. They are hitting rockets tonight.

Taylor Ward is a single away from the cycle and he has 4 runs scored. He is an on base machine and is going to score a ton of runs hitting in front of Ohatani, Trout, Walsh and Rendon.

Yep. Those were rockets off of Logan Allen, might have been 450 total MPH in those three hits.

On the other side, Franmil Reyes ended a streak of 8 straight K's. By somehow making it worse and grounding into a DP.

Did they ever ban those Yankee fans from the Guardians fiasco or was it basically just a job well done for Manfred's childhood team? Google doesn't indicate that the organization nor MLB did anything beyond the gentlest wagging of the finger.

Angels were up 6-0 on the White Sox going to the bottom of the 9th, it is now 6-5 with the bases loaded and Maddon just pulled Iglesias.

Angels hold on, White Sox sent up 11 batters but fell just short. Rough season for the White Sox so far.
