Who is ready for baseball? Because games that matter start today.

With Yanks and Sox being postponed because of rain, Brewers and Cubs kick off the season at 2:20pm EST, Burnes v. Hendricks.

Guardians @ Royals 4PM ET is the MLB.TV free game of the day. Witt's debut (youngest in Royals history) and Greinke on the mound.

I am under the impression that Directv is making Extra Innings free all week. I guess I'll find out when I tune in to see the NL Cy Young (Brewers) go against Cubs at 2:20.

You at Wrigley? If so, have a great time. I haven’t been able to catch a game there but have been dying to
hell no

(Miller Park (whatever insurance company now has naming rights) and Guaranteed Rate are better parks (but worse neighborhoods))

Prince Fielder left Milwaukee after 2011, and the Brewers have had 11 different opening day starters at 1st base since then

I’ve been to guaranteed rate. It was years ago and my seats were absolute nose bleeds, but I remember enjoying it decently enough

I can't believe Jason Heyward is still going. I remember him homering in his debut on opening day 12 years ago, after he'd been projected by Baseball America or one of the others as "Frank Thomas with speed"... reminds me of when Matt Wieters was going to be better than Joe Mauer as soon as he reached the majors.

I didn't know they were going to use the beeper system this year instead of catchers calling pitches using signs. The guys in the Brewers booth love it, think it's speeding up the game.

They've been experimenting with it in spring training, but I believe official league approval for regular season use only came in the last few days. Apparently after some glowing reviews from players using it. It's actually remarkable how quickly it's been adopted given the usual glacial pace of change in the game.

First singing of "Take me out to the ballgame" at Wrigley for 2022. I'm curious - do any ballparks actually sell "Crackerjacks" ?

Peter Gammons wrote a nostalgic piece for The Athletic ($) on his Opening Day memories. If you love the tradition of baseball, it is a must read. One of the memorable games he recounted was the Red Sox home opener against the Mariners in 1998. Pedro was a new member of the Red Sox and you will see several other memorable players. Here is a link to the entire game. If you don’t have 3+ hours to watch it, then please do yourself a favor and watch the first 4:48 for the team introductions (some surprises there) and the national anthem (surprise guest vocalist). And guess who’s in the the broadcast booth! Then skip all the way to 3:37:31 to catch the bottom of the ninth. Again, more pleasant surprises, the pitchers coming from the Mariners’ bullpen, and the game-ending result.

Pirates guy #1: We have this pitcher who was 5-13 with a 5.36 ERA last year.

Pirates guy #2: Let's make him our opening day starter!

I feel like bad teams at least used to try to be interesting/semi-competent?

The smell of plastic is in the air, it’s 72 and gloomy inside….it’s Opening Day at the Trop!

New look Rays lineup with H Ramirez and J Lowe.

Heh, I have zero idea who Harold Ramirez is and I feel like I pay pretty close attention to these things. Love the Rays!

He's the epitome of the guy that makes you think, "I'm surprised he's available on waivers"... then he gets plugged into the lineup for a few months... then you think, "Don't we have anyone with more upside than this?".
