deGrom is having to date one of the best seasons ever. It’s amazing. He is arguable the best pitcher of this generation already.
He also doubled in the first run of the game, and overall is hitting .545 on the year (not a typo)

It’s just ridiculous right now

I did not realize the hitting part, a 0.31 ERA and a 1.182 OPS, hahahaha...

So Mike Trout leaned into a pitch that was in the strike zone with his elbow yesterday, a la Conforto. And then had to be removed from the game with an elbow contusion.

Pretty stupid maneuver there by one of the best hitters in the history of baseball. You don't need to scrap to get on base Mike.
Not sure if you saw the highlights later, but when he was on 3rd, he was chatting with Bregman and the mic picked him up saying je thought it was a slider. And also said that he has a lot of trouble picking up the ball at Houston

This is probably common knowledge, but I had no idea Tatis Jr was originally in the Chisox organization and dealt for James Shields, who proceeded to go 16-35 5.31 for Chicago. My god. At least Larry Andersen was pretty good in Boston!

Astros got big help in a comeback win, a foul double was not overturned on replay, clearly no chalk came up and was right of the line.

No mention of this play in any of the MLB app highlights, not the game wrap, not even the condensed game. I had to replay the full game broadcast to see this play. F*ck MLB and its lousy umps and its lousy replay system and its lousy covering up for its lousy umps and lousy replay.

This is obviously about as lopsided as a single transaction can be, but for White Sox fans, some context probably helps. Tim Anderson was their #1 pick in 2013 and the Tatis deal was in 2016, so it's not like they have a black hole at SS, and the White Sox similarly stole a pre-arb Lucas Giolito from NatsTown as part of the Adam Eaton deal (and also later turned Dunning from that deal into one year of Lance Lynn).

It's in the MLB app as a specific highlight. They always have game highlights all over the place though. No real logical order to it

DeGrom's ERA+ is 1245. That's not an extra digit --it's over one thousand. 1 ER in 29 IP. People with 0 ER don't register on ERA+, so I'll bet that's the highest ERA+ you can find on b-ref.

Jake Odorizzi left after 5 pitches today. The trainer was looking at his forearm. On the bright side, he retired the one batter he faced, so it was his best start of the season (lowering his ERA to 10.13). Odorizzi's deal is a minimum of 2 years, $17M total and this was always going to turn out badly for the Astros.

3-2 pitch, at least six inches off the plate outside and he not only hit it out, he pulled it out to left center!!!

I thought about this more and of course the White Sox could have moved Anderson to 2B if they still had Tatis Jr and they would be infinitely better off, so consider my above post pretty much withdrawn. I love the White Sox personnel the next few years, depending on how many of them La Russa breaks before he is fired, but wow if they had Tatis Jr too.

In the White Sox defense here, he was a 17 year old who hadn't played an official game with any of their minor league affiliates at the time of the trade. He'd been in their organization for only a year (I'm assuming at their academy in DR). I don't think there was any way to know he'd turn into a superstar by age 21.

Good God are the Indians an absolute joke. That lineup is so bad they need to win every game 2-1 if they're lucky enough to score two that is.

Tatis homers again in the 4th, I think one more and he would be the first player ever to hit multiple HRs in three straight games.

These games are fast approaching pre2004 Sox/Yankees levels.
Will never reach that intensity - but it’s cool to see a west coast rivalry like this. I hope people are watching.

Probably wouldn't have mattered since May is striking out everyone, but I would have had Mateo bunting that inning, since he is a terrible hitter and one of the fastest guys in the game.

A-Rod doesn’t even try anymore. On Max Muncy:

“The Moneyball dream player. What Billy Beane would do to have him on his team?”
The factual mistakes are just constant, from Vasgersian too. I think my least favorite annoucing duo ever, in any sport (I fucking hate Mark Jackson but Breen is fine).

At this point, I’m tuning into all of them. Great baseball, fun personalities.

I hate Vasgersian on MLB The Show. Hate him here, too.
It blows my mind how they let some of their commentary ship. “He’s in his tracks” (everyone is always in their own tracks, that’s what tracks are), “the two out threat does not come to pass” (yes it did, the scoring didn’t come to pass), etc, etc. I’d kill for them to get even Joe Buck.

Oh, barring a DP here Tatis coming to plate in the 9th with a chance to tie it.

There has not been more exciting baseball played this year then Dodger and Padres! Fantastic energy!
