Akil Baddoo not only has one of the best names ever, he is quite a story early for the Tigers. A Rule 5 pick from the Twins, he was great in spring training and was 3-7 with 2 HRs coming into today. Today he pinch ran late and then got his first AB of the day in the bottom of the 10th, runners on 2nd and 3rd and two outs. He rocketed a liner into RF, ballgame, against his former team.

I saw Tingler admitted Tatis's shoulder has come out a bit a few times before. At this exact moment in time, signing Tatis to a megadeal with a balky shoulder seems suspect.

Carson Smith had shoulder subluxation in 2018 (https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/news/red-sox-carson-smith-surgery-shoulder-injured-throws-glove-dl-stats-mlb-news/y65jkj33ggrs145g9q2kbdl0u). He hasn't pitched in the big leagues since.
Incredible Padres would sign Tatis to that contract with that injury history.

Reds allowed 11+ on Opening Day, have scored 40 their next four games. The last team to allow 10+ first game, then 40+ next four was the 1877 Louisville Grays (allowed 15; scored 47 in next four).

If you know your 19th century baseball, that’s an interesting team to share company with, as four of its players were permanently banned from baseball after the season for a game fixing scandal that almost assuredly altered the pennant race, including league star pitcher Jim Devlin.

Jonathan Papelbon had shoulder subluxation in 2006. They tried to manage and protect him for a while after that but by the end of that next season, we never heard about it again.

Every case is different.

Thanks for that reminder. I thought there was a subluxation issue from back then, but couldn’t remember who.
Position player maybe a better comp, a shortstop in particular. Adalberto Mondesi had two shoulder subluxations in 2019.

https://www.mlb.com/news/adalberto-mondesi-left-shoulder-surgery

"Mondesi originally sustained a left shoulder subluxation in July while diving to catch a foul popup. After rehabbing for six weeks, Mondesi returned to the lineup earlier this month. He then re-injured the shoulder while diving for a ground ball in the hole against the Twins on Sunday at Target Field.

Kenney indicated the re-injury on Sunday was identical to the original injury -- a labral tear.
A labral tear occurs when the cartilage that holds the shoulder socket in place is torn."

That article from September 26 2019.
Mondesi first MLB game was 25th July 2020. Didnt start hitting well until September 2020.

Out start of this season (after playing well in Spring) with oblique strain.
This would be close to worst case scenario for Tatis as an ongoing and lingering issues. Well, worst case for Padres at least.

I can't see any mention of a labral tear for Tatis but from initial reading seems that a labral tear is very common with subluxation. Any expert want to chime in?

EDIT: found this :

"Fernando Tatis Jr. has some slight labral tearing, which is consistent with a subluxation injury, A.J. Preller said. "Overall, the exam today was pretty uneventful." Tatis will go on the IL. Preller said the Padres will go the rest-and-rehab route and aim for a return in 10 days. " - Padres reporter for The Athletic.

Fun game at Wrigley right now, scoreless in the 6th, Hendricks vs. Woodruff. Woodruff has been perfect through 5 on only 46 pitches, but the Brewers can't get him a run.

I'm wrong, he hasn't been perfect since there was an error followed by a DP early on, but he has not allowed a hit or walk through 6 on just 56 pitches.

They have got to reverse this call in the Mets game, bases loaded, 2-2 game, bottom of the 9th, 1-2 count, and Conforto literally sticks his elbow into the pitch WHICH IS IN THE STRIKE ZONE. Absurd.

Edit: They are not reviewing it, wow.

I think they reviewed HBP or not, and it clearly was a double tap off the elbow pad. Whether the batter intentionally tried to be HBP or not, I would imagine, is a judgment call.

Yeah, I was watching the Mets telecast when it happened, I have never seen hometown announcers mock a home team win like that (and rightfully so).

For me, the best thing about the Mets winning a game on a bases loaded HBP is that I get to remind one of my best friends about Juan Agosto hitting Daryl Boston with a pitch to force in the only run in a 13 inning 1992 Mets-Cards game, in what is known between us as "the candy dish game".

I was working at Penn, and my friend and roommate at the time, a huge Cards fan, was in his first year at Penn Law. Since I could get the FAN in my office, I had been listening to the game while I was working. So when I came home to find a chair broken and a shattered candy dish with hard candies scattered all over the living room carpet, I knew immediately what happened even before I saw his note stating, "Sorry. I had to take a walk. I'll clean the living room when I get back."

The capper was that Agosto's pitch was a lollypop curve so soft it landed inside of Boston's jersey. I'm sure my friend hit that candy dish a lot harder than that pitch hit Boston. But we both can laugh about it now!

What's also sad about it is it robbed fans of the chance to see Alonso up with two outs and the bases loaded. That could have produced a much more memorable happy ending to the Mets home opener.
And it takes the spotlight off of McNeil's mammoth impressive tying HR earlier in the inning.

Seems the Jays still cannot play in Canada.

They are playing in Dunedin now.

I assume everyone knew this. I didn’t.

I didn’t realize it until last night. The wall behind home plate kinda looks like the Skydome wall if you’re not really paying attention. It caught me off guard when they switched cameras and they were playing outdoors.

Franmil Reyes with a 2-homer game, following Jose Ramirez's 2-homer performance in the Indians' last game. Reyes' 2nd one was an absolute bomb beyond the center field shrubbery and into Heritage Park (Cleveland's hall of fame monument area). I haven't heard a measurement, but that might be the deepest shot to center since the Jim Thome days.

Joe Musgrove of the Padres just threw the first no-hitter of the season, beating the Rangers 3-0. 0 hits, 0 walks, 0 errors, 1 hbp, 10 Ks. 112 pitches, 77 strikes.
First no-hitter in Padres franchise history.
Might not be the only time this terrible Rangers team gets no-hit this year.

Padres continue to flex on the Rangers after Woodward's comments on Tatis grand slam. Go to set a record by hitting grand slams in 4 straight games then throw the first no hitter in franchise history the first time they play the following season.

Reyes on Cleveland hits a bomb to right but it's foul by inches. So he follows that up with another bomb to right but it was fair.

That was a very cool sequence.
