The Indians usually start the season on the road because of potentially bad weather for home games. So naturally they begin the schedule in Detroit playing in snow. Shane Bieber picks up right where he left off in last year's playoffs and gets tagged for 2 runs in the 1st inning.

Does anyone else use the sports package cable channels for MLB (or nhl/nba), as opposed to the online versions? I've noticed this year that when I watch games on those stations they're on a much larger delay than they were in previous years, and I'm not sure if that's a cox cable thing or if that's standard now across the board.

Like I'm watching this yankees game on espn on 1 tv and on extra innings on another tv and the extra innings one is about 2 full pitches behind espn. I know the online versions have always been delayed, but until recently the tv versions of those sports packages never was.

Cole is done. No opening day win. That's just too bad.

ESPN baseball broadcasts continue to set new standards in the field of grating on our ears. They have four people talking at once on this Yankees game, and the color guy sounds like he's reporting from inside someone's nose. Do they listen to these people talk at all before putting them on national TV?

JBJ on the bench for his first Brewers' game. MiLB journeyman Billy McKinney getting the start over him.

Andrelton Simmons just muffed a possible DP. I have to admit I was happy to see that, given his head-in-the-sand attitude towards vaccination. Plus I am rooting for Milwaukee.

Goofy play in Colorado. Clay Bellinger hit a ball to the wall in LF, the fielder appeared to catch it but lost the ball over the fence. In the meantime, Justin Turner turned around and went back to first, causing Bellinger to pass him on the base paths. Turner gets to score on the homerun but Bellinger was called out.

Something I’ve never seen and have no idea how to score just happened in Colorado.

Why are extra innings with runner on 2nd back? I want that entirely gone, now it's likely here to stay forever including playoffs even (if not this year, next CBA).

Cody Bellinger ends last season injuring himself celebrating. Starts this season hitting a HR but passing the base runner on first rounding the bases. Only gets credit for an RBI single.

More unusual plays in Denver (okay, more rare than unusual). The Rockies squeeze in a run to tie the score...in the bottom of the third. All because the pitcher was in the on-deck circle, I'm sure. Can't wait for the universal DH.

Madison Bumgarner continuing his quest to be one of the worst FA signings of all time, 4 ERs allowed so far today in the 3rd.

I'm not a big fan of the rule but it's tolerable as a regular season measure, but I hope it's never implemented in the playoffs. The rationale of protecting pitching staffs and players in the regular season does not hold for the playoffs.

This is a minor annoyance but the crawl at the bottom of the MLB Network obscures the crawl with in-game stats at the bottom of their in-game highlights. It's bad graphics.

I'm half watching Milw-Minn and I have no idea what the score is.

I think almost every single game had a comeback in the past 5 minutes. Arizona just went HR, BB, pop out, HR, reach on error, HR, HR to take the lead.

I knew Hader had come into the game to start the 10th for the Brewers but saw the little icon saying there was a man on 3rd. I thought maybe he wasn't looking as dominant as he has in the past. Maybe the whispers of a potential dropoff had merit?

Nope, he struck out the side on 11 pitches. But he was a wild pitch away from losing anyways because of that stupid rule, which it's going to take a long time to reflexively remember exists.

It's intended to save wear and tear on the players during the long season. Not a fan of it. but fine as long as it is never used in the playoffs, much as the NHL has shootouts in the regular season but plays sudden death OT periods during the playoffs.

I'll accept it this year, given the strains on pitching staffs due to the big ramp up of innings. But it cannot be allowed to become more than an emergency measure.

Very Rays-ian opening day victory over Marlins, 1-0. Glasnow goes 6, gives up an infield single and that’s it—0R 0BB 6K 1H

The problem is I could see the players favoring it. We love 19 inning marathons, but I bet they don't. And as far as the owners are concerned, they cut off beer sales at some point so no one drives home drunk, so they probably don't make much more from "bonus" baseball.

Agreed. It’s so stupid that a team can get up and hit a single to win the game in the 10th inning. Long extra inning games are not a reason why anyone thinks baseball is boring, the runner on second shit is just creating a problem to solve an imagined problem

Pulled with fewer than 80 pitches. Guess the Blake Snell shitshow didn’t change their thinking

Bard got himself into trouble which was impressive because he almost exclusively was throwing 99mph on the black.
