Let the season begin!

Yankees at Tampa Tanaka vs. Archer
Giants at Arizona Bumgarner vs. Greinke
Cubs at Cardinals Lester vs. Martinez

The Rays off to a nice start against the Yankees up 5-2. Longoria with 3 RBIs on a 2 run HR and a sac fly. Hopefully a Yankees 0-162 season will still be a possibility after today.

I very much enjoy this version of Masahiro Tanaka.

And Tommy Layne warming up as Sanchez throws it away!

The game is on ESPN, but I dislike ESPN and Sutcliffe even more than Michael Kay. It turns out that the individual teams' broadcasts are free at the moment on Directv. I'm watching on 721. It's odd that we have received no notice from D-tv that these stations would be free. I guess free access will last a week, if it follows previous years' pattern.

My guess is we'll get the DTV message about the free week tomorrow when all of the games aren't available on ESPN/ESPN2 nationally and there are more teams playing to promote it.

Where are the bombers? Last century
And the baby bombers? Next century
Long live the 21st century, that's the one that matters for us.

I think a lot of my mental disorder, but I enjoy a yanks loss as much as a Sox win. I've always said that the only thing that I want at the start of the season, is that if the Sox don't take it all, see the yank's humiliated.
Yes Bumgarner is a monster and I like pitchers hitting, as it was always when I started following baseball.
Casually this is my post number 67, year when all started for me.

Mad Bum perfect through 5 with a solo shot to center field. Yeah, he's ready.

Rodney looks really really bad too.

Melancon was paid big time closer money by the Giants, one game in but does not look good.

So the Cardinals trot out all of their championship trophys for lineup intros against the defending World Champ Cubs. Seems like a douchebag move.

Martinez has a nice arm. Little guy throwing a mean fastball, hmmmm reminds me of a certain pitcher.

Somehow I had blocked out the fact that Boone and Mendoza are still in the booth for these games.

This game and the Giants@Dbacks have really reminded me of how exciting this game can be. It was great seeing Koji. I'm glad he didn't give up any runs.

So a goof by the infielder puts men on 1st and 2nd with 1 out and Contreras crushes one to tie the game. Oh, the Cards closed ser is at 37 pitches.

On to the bottom of the 9th tie game.

Why did St. Louis bring its closer into the game in the 8th inning of the opener? A bit ridiculous to go for a five-out save at this stage.

What a start to the year from BUM - 2 Homers. And that was launched!
First ever time, of 21 instances (including this one), where a pitcher has hit 2+ home runs not just on Opening Day, but in April as a whole. The previous earliest was Derek Lilliquist for Atlanta, May 1st, 1990.

I was surprised Oh stayed in for the 9th after being lucky to hold it together in the 8th. Especially after they went up 3-0 in the bottom of the 8th.

Mets-Braves and Nats-Marlins open the first full day of games. A lot of NL East stars and young guys to watch, should be good baseball.
