The bitterness Sox fans continue to have towards Jeter's catch will always be hilarious. It's cool - even Yankees fans agree that the catch against Oakland in the ALDS was better. Haters gonna hate.

Do you mean the relay throw?

No, I mean this. (And yeah obviously Gordon's catch is better.) The relay is a thing of beauty though.

We Red Sox fans know that Jeter's play against the Sox wasn't even the best catch of a popup by a shortstop in THAT GAME, much less of all-time.

Sure, OK. You're just making my point for me. You guys let it bother you WAY too much. If I were you, I'd associate that catch with trading Nomar and finally winning. I wouldn't be all grumpy about it, which is how Sox fans are every time it's shown or mentioned.

Heh, I have absolutely no memory of that one somehow.

Well, I guess not ALL Yankees fans think that catch is better. I'm pretty surprised you don't know that one. Jeter referenced it when talking about why he jumped into the stands after the Sox/Nomar sulking catch (AKA the swan dive that Sox fans love to mock). He'd fallen onto concrete when making the ALDS catch above, so he was trying to jump over the concrete pit and avoid it. Too bad he faceplanted into some seats instead.

I'm not sure where you're deriving anything from his statement other than fact.  It legitimately wasn't the best catch by a SS that game.  It got the most press, but it wasn't the best catch.  I don't think it's bitter to point that out.

Dillon Gee has gotten through 7 innings vs the Marlins on 59 pitches.  Dillon. Gee.  No score yet, so if they stay tied, he could probably go extras.

Much funnier--that the general quality of Yankee baseball discussion on the internet is so barren and clearly infected with stupid that the few remaining stragglers have to come here to experience our "bitterness" and pretend not to be bothered by it.

Like, much funnier.

I don't disagree with that, but to be fair, the general quality of pretty much all baseball discussion on the web (and off the web) besides here seems to be that barren and infected with stupid. But, still, yeah.

So is Mattingly a moron, an inept manager or what?

His pitcher Frias (a relever, not the starter) us due 2nd in the bottom of the 6th up by a run.

Pederson batting, Frias is on deck.

Pederson homers, 5-3 now.

Frias takes his turn AB and bunts. With the bases empty.

Dodgers make the next two outs, and Mattingly sends a new pitcher to open he 7th vs. the Giants.

Really?

Is he playing with a short bench or something? There has to be a reason, I just can't think of one off the top of my head

I always thought he was pretty dumb and would be overmatched as a manager, I was very glad NY didn't hire him after Torre.

No one is bitter about Jeter's catch.  But it's not close to the iconic moment it has been made out to be.  We just love pointing that out.

There is clearly an edge to some of the comments, but if you want to see bitterness, just try and have a rational conversation with a Yankee fan about Jeter's place among the all-time greats. No one spits more bile than Yankee fans confronted with facts that refute the alltimegreatness of Captain Intangibles.

The idea that that catch has anything to do with trading Nomar is funny.

According to the box score, Archie Bradley left the game in the 2nd with a head injury.  Line drive back to the mound?  Anyone know what happened?

Yeah, he caught a line drive with his face.

That sucks. I mean, it sucks for any pitcher, but it just feels worse when it's a kid getting his first shot at the majors

All things considered, if you're going to get hit by a liner in the face/head, I guess that's probably about as good a spot as you can hope.  Really hope he makes a quick, full recovery.  Seemed on the verge of becoming the stud prospect everyone was expecting.

Wow, looks like I touched a nerve. I didn't realize you had a stick up your ass with a Yankees logo on it (actually, I probably did but just forgot). Anyway, sorry for the derail, I'm done. Sorry for inventing the entire Nomar narrative, too. That was something I just made up the other day and totally not a thing that happened in 2004.

So, in summation...

Cromulence points out a catch better than the one Jeter is most famous for = ok

Red Sox fans point out a catch better than the one Jeter is most famous for = oversensitive, nerve-touched with Yankee-logo sticks up asses

Do I have that right?

The only nerve you touched is the one that has no tolerance for fools.

Let's go back to your original post.

You then followed up by linking this catch to Nomar being traded (which is an abject falsehood) and then began referring to something (not sure specifically what) as the "Sox/Nomar sulking catch (AKA the swan dive that Sox fans love to mock)"

I have no problem with virtually all of the Yankee fans on this board. But all you've done here is act like a troll and then pretend that you did nothing of the sort.

Fuck off.

Tough month for Alcides Escobar. Just got drilled in the head with a pitch and left the game.

Surprisingly Yordano Ventura did not hit anybody in retaliation.

Fernando Rodney, pitching in his 4th consecutive game, gets his 3rd consecutive save.  What's the MLB record for consecutive games Saved?  Can't be much more than 4, right?

Edit: Just looked it up on Wikipedia:

Consecutive team games with a save

Consecutive team games with a relief appearance

Edit: Man, Rod Beck.  Sad story for a guy who was really fun to watch and root for.  Beck was apparently a lot more complicated than the image he projected of a fat, beer drinking dude with the sweet 'stache.

Lol, Jean Segura just tricked David Ross into throwing behind him to second, and stole 3rd while Ross was doing so.

6,6,6,6,7 by batter.

Edit- Luckily for him Starlin Castro grounds into a DP leaving the bases loaded.

Castro has batted 19 times with a man at first. 5 GIDP.
He's also batted 10 times with a man at 3rd and less than 2 outs. Scored the runner only 4 times.
