So in the second inning, Cozart gets on first and Lester makes his first pickoff attempt in 2 years, a soft lob to first.  He then tries another, and overshoots Rizzo by about  10 feet.  Cozart tries to get to third but is thrown out by Soler from RF.

He really can't throw the ball to first.
Yikes.

He's lucky it's an off day for Hamilton.

Indian pitcher, Carlos Carrasco, took a liner off the face from Melky Cabrera in the top of the 1st today.  Seemed to hit his wrist first, scrubbing a little speed off of it, so hopefully, it didn't do too much damage, but he looked to be hurting really bad and had to be carted off the field.

As an update: through some miracle it now appears that he has no concussion or fracture, but merely a wicked bruise.

For those who haven't watched him pitch recently, Carrasco is one of the most electric young starters in MLB. If he really did manage to escape serious injury, take the opportunity to watch his next start.

@hoynsie: Carrasco will be pushed back one day, and start Monday vs White Sox. Tribe needs starter for Sun vs Twins.

Seattle had men on 2nd and 3rd.  Dodgers pitcher walked the batter.  Cano, at 3rd, starts jogging home, obviously thinking the bases were loaded.

He was tagged out.
Soxhop maybe you can take this as illustrative of what does and does not make a useful post?

Cool fact from Twitter: Cruz's 5 game HR streak is tied for 2nd place in Mariners history.  The guys he is tied with/trailing, respectively: Alex Rodriguez and Ken Griffey Jr.  Not bad company.

Also, Vin Scully is telling Jackie Robinson Dodgers stories on the broadcast tonight, for those interested.

Edit: Cruz up again right now. And he singles, which is not as exciting as a HR but brings the tying run to the plate in the form of Kyle Seager with 1 out in the top of the 8th.

I'm lucky to have time warner at home so I get spoiled by Vin Scully

And tomorrow, and Saturday...

That said, he did lead MLB with 40 HR last season. PEDs aside, Cruz's limitation has pretty much always been his injuries. Last season he began DHing frequently and stayed healthy the whole year, and the Mariners are following the same playbook.

The Royals bullpen just allowed its first runs of the season in today's game vs. the Twins.

I missed the exact stat, but it was something like 23 IP scoreless to open the season, the longest such steak to open a season since the 2007 Padres set the MLB record with 28.1 IP before allowing a run.

Being talked about everywhere, but first pitch in Padres @ Cubs is at 2:20 ET, and Kris Bryant is batting cleanup for the Cubbies.

For those who can't see it on MLB.tv, I wouldn't be surprised if ESPN and theMLB Network cuts into their feed to broadcast it.
