Hi,

For those of you still using the iPhone 5... you may be able to extend it's life if your phone's serial number is part of the battery and/or sleep button replacement program.

When I first posted about the battery program last year, I had already replaced it myself and wasn't eligible to be reimbursed. The program was also supposed to end in the spring, but Apple has extended it into 2016.

It turns out the battery isn't the only issue with some iPhone 5's, so is the sleep button, which also includes the mute switch and volume buttons on the side of the phone. There is a replacement program for this part, too. It also extends into 2016.

Apple doesn't feel the need to notify us of any of these programs.  Even if you are planning to upgrade, or have an iPhone 5 as a back-up, it would be worth checking your eligibility to add some new life to the device.

When I took my phone in, Apple gave me a loaner for 5-days, they did the sleep button replacement and also replaced the battery (even though I hadn't inquired and had already replaced it on my own) and the camera sensor.

If I'm underwhelmed with the features of the 6s next week, waiting for the 7, and avoiding having to play games with at&t is now an option.

Good Luck!
