...so you didn't get off the highway, then?

Houston is capital U U-G-L-Y. There's no doubt about it. The total lack of zoning laws - which will also lead to the city's complete destruction by climate change - are to blame.

But yeah - you're flat-out incorrect on this one. The city is incredibly diverse and overflowing with culture. I live in Austin. Here in 2022, Houston is a FAR more interesting place than the state's capital. It's not the 1970s anymore.

As far as its conservatism goes, yeah - it's TEXAS. That said, the city itself is deep blue.

Also, unless you live in New Orleans, Los Angeles or New York, the food is better down here than where you are.

As far as the answer to the poll? It's the Texans, 100%.

EDIT: LOL at "traffic" being a complaint. 'cause that's only an issue in Houston and not in every other major city in the U.S. Clearly.
Nah, I’m right on this one. I lived in San Antonio for 15+ years and have been to Houston countless times. I’m not some Masshole commenting on Houston after going to a SB once, like you probably were assuming. It’s a blah city with zero real intrigue.

Different strokes for different folks. I only take issue with your use of the word culture and that is why I asked you how to define how you were using it. I’m a NYC lover and I take it over any other US city any day but I wouldnt ding Houston for culture unless I was being specific about a lack of something.

I mean, he's objectively wrong. But yeah - agree to disagree.

The one thing we can all agree on is that the Texans are the saddest franchise in the NFL.

Also: LOL at a one-time San Antonio resident criticizing Houston's lack of culture. And I LIKE San Antonio.

The Giants' job is the worst. No Qb, near the top of the league in cap obligations for next year, lousy players who are expensive, and a mediocre owner with relatives spread out through the organization. They have 2 first-round picks in a draft devoid of good QBs. Whoever is the GM should just take it on the chin next year, trade all the vets worth anything, cut the lousy expensive players, and play a roster full of kids.

I don’t think he is saying San Antonio is good just that he is familiar with Texas.

Maybe Houston has a bad ballet. When some people say culture they could mean museums, they could mean gun culture, car culture, they could mean many things. I think it would make sense to me if someone said they don’t like Houston culture moreso than saying it lacks culture.

Yeah, I thought about responding but I’ve sidetracked this thread enough with my crapping on Houston. My apologies.

See to me, they have no worse QB situation than others, none of whom have a clear franchise QB (except maybe Houston) and you didn't get to choose your prospect. Their cap situation is only bad for 1 year (if that), most guys can be gone by the end on next year, so their 2023 cap is very clear. They won't be good next year regardless of coach, but it's a rebuild and everyone knows that. Sometimes being worse year 1 to be more flexible in year 2 is better.

I chose Jacksonville because if Trevor ends up not being able to make the transition to the NFL the next coach will be absolutely screwed.

I picked the Bears. Long history of ownership not getting it done there.

If you are looking at it that way what about the Bears? I think Fields is much more likely to be a bust than Lawrence. Plus the Jags have the #1 pick and the Bears don’t have a first round pick.

The #1 (and #33, #65 I imagine) is quite a nice incentive for a new coach but Fields wasn't close to the Peyton / Andrew Luck level of "this guy should rock the NFL or the coach must suck" hype.

Yea but I don't know if the new coach will get the blame for Trevor being a bust. The new coach can say he wasn't his pick, thought he wasn't going to be good, etc.

If a new coach comes into NY, and sticks with Jones, drafts someone, or picks a cheap FA who didn't work out, he and the GM will be to blame for the screw up. (Yes I know both Trevor and Jones are on the same team but the new Giants coach/GM has to decide who the QB will be in 2022-3)

Lawrence already has one pretty bad year in the books. I’m not sure the next coach will shoulder the blame fully if he’s a bust. Either way in Chicago or Jacksonville you are hitched to a high first round pick at QB going into his second year with some real question marks. I’ll take Lawrence and the Jags draft position over Chicago and Fields.

I truly want to know exactly what you don't like about Houston's culture. Is it the music, food, or something else. We've come this far. Why not explain?

Start a thread about Houston's culture in TBLTS if you want to discuss those things. This thread is about NFL coaching vacancies and the worst destination based on team structures. Let's keep it on topic.

Thanks.

Only on SoSH could we have a debate on how much Houston the city sucks or does not suck when Jacksonville is in the thread. Jacksonville.

I think that you always have to frame these openings by the quality of the existing roster. New coaches will get 2 years to prove themselves typically. If the roster is so hosed that there's no realistic way to dream on a .500 season, then that team rockets to the top of the shit list.

Unless I'm reading it incorrectly, NYG and JAX ended up 31 and 32 in dvoa. So, that's where I wouldn't want to go.

I’d rather live in Jax than Houston. I love the beach/ocean (Galveston doesn’t count).

Do you like Houston’s roster over Jax? Feels like more pieces to work with on Jax (assuming Watson is not part of Houston).

We don't even know if Lawrence is the guy yet, and the rest of that roster just earned consecutive #1 picks.
That’s mostly cause Urban was a tire fire and Houston had more seasoned vets that probably won’t be around long, IMO. In terms of raw talent, I’m taking Jacksonville although both Robinson and Etienne are dealing with rehab from major injuries so we’ll see. The other Josh Allen seems like a major potential breakout candidate. Either way, mine would only be a very slight lean towards Jax roster. They’re both awful rosters for sure.

Yeah the livability of the city has nothing to do with a coaching vacancy. Jesus the moderation/wannabe moderation in this sub sucks.

Thanks for your input. The tangent and sidetrack by those involved which was already acknowledged as a sidetrack can be discussed elsewhere. Arguing over whether a city has culture or not isn't what this thread is about.

Got a problem with that, backwash is available.
