Derek Jeter was going to be an All Star this year no matter what, but ugh.

You know what's dumb---the talk on ESPN Radio I heard yesterday that since fans are voting for Nelson Cruz maybe HoF voters should take another look at the steroids guys as well.

Because those things are exactly the same you see. A player caught, punished, and presumably tested a lot more often now and putting up good numbers is hopefully clean and could theoretically be an All Star. A steroid guy like Palmiero's career is still tainted. It's not the same. At all.

Also, fans generally think their guys are innocent, so clean or not, they'll get votes from the home team.

I`d like some opinions on voting for the Sox. I don`t like voting for them because I`d like to see them get a break instead of the extra travel and the chance to give minor injuries a little time to heal. A few times players have not wanted to play but hasn`t the commish`s office stopped them from bowing out?

SS Jeter
3B Donaldson
C Wieters
DH Cruz
OF Trout (vote leader)
OF Bautista
OF Melky”

The top two catchers right now are Wieters, who may not play again this season, and McCann, who has been horrible.  And Jeter is still leading Ramirez.

Why are Red Sox fans voting for AJ Pierzynski and not Xander Bogaerts?  Like, for serious... I don't get it.  There is no justification for it.  If it's a popularity contest, Xander is exponentially more likable.  If it's about performance, Xander is the far better player with far better numbers.  If it's about simply voting for the laundry, then Xander should have a similar amount of votes.  So WTF, Red Sox Nation?  W. T. F.

Casual fans that are not Red Sox fans are more aware of AJ's name than Xander's. Plus, not much hype/competition for the catcher position.

At shortstop there is Xander at a 127 wRC+, Ramirez at 117 and then Aybar at 112, and finally Asdrubal Cabrera and Jose Reyes at 107 before we drop below 100.  Xander is clearly the best bat, and is arguably the best overall even though Ramirez is the better defender.

At catcher we have Derek Norris, John Jaso, Chris Iannetta, Matt Wieters, Kurt Suzuki, and Hank Conger, at or above 120, Yan Gomes, Salvador Perez, Josmil Pinto, Alex Avila at or above 102 and Tyler Flowers and Jason Castro slotting in before we get to Pierzynski at 89.

There is a ton more competition at catcher and there are at least 12 players more deserving than AJ.

You're missing the point. Casual fans are more aware of AJP as a name,  than names like Norries et al.

The ASG voting is a popularity contest for the most part.

You are ruining a perfectly good rant.

In the "FU Red Sox this is 2014" department, old pal Brandon Moss makes the team (over zero Red Sox position players)

Which Red Sox position player do you believe is having a better season than Moss?

I'm not saying anyone should be over Moss, just that's been a terrible season and Moss wasn't expected to be an All-Star when he left this team.
