I was thinking of the guy who played for five years, and then went on to get a law degree, did a legal fellowship in the EU, ran for congress, and ran a MLS team. He's been in football in both the US and Europe, sure, but he uses football, it doesn't use him.
I guess we just see it differently, hence the bet.
I'm certainly not denying that Oliver did other interesting things beside football. But when you then become Commissioner of a shit league like the XFL, football is deep in your blood, not a means to an end.

A crater? Does he mean an asteroid?
Is that even a very big crater? With all the earth involved, I bet craters are very heavy and that one probably isn’t really all that big.

It’s not the size of Texas, for example.

He just sounds at peace with his decision and prepared to move on. Sounds like his body is broken. Said he heard the fans boo him and said it hurt.
Fuck those fans with a Tungsten Pineapple. They couldn't have been much more fortunate in terms of moving from one great QB onto another one, and they get what they deserve for being such ungrateful hillbillies.

It's not.

104 cubic yards of dirt would weigh 100 tons. Essentially a square 125 feet by 125 feet to a depth of 2 inches would be 100 tons.

Assuming he’s interested, have to think he’d get his pick of TV gigs.

Good for him. Playing football is a dangerous pastime. Getting out early is a smart play.

Is “I want to travel the world” code for “Indy sucks”?

It's code for... playing in the NFL is actually a secretly shitty life except for the money, and since he has lots of money he plans to do what most people with lots of money do.

Absolutely disgusting to boo this guy. No class shitbag town franchise and fan base.

Every player on that roster is demoralized.

I love the game but at some level there has to be awareness that the players are destroying their bodies, leaving themselves crippled and in permanent pain, risking CTE, and sometimes shortening their lifespans. They will tell you that’s what they signed up for and they live the game and thatd fine - but the guy decided that his body is too broken and you BOO him? Man am I angry and I could not care less about Luck or the Colts.

Yup. Complete classless display. Luck gave this franchise everything he had. Glad he’s leaving them.

Maybe they should’ve gotten him an O line sooner. I liked the guy. Glad I can now root for him in life. I hope Cam and Jimmy and other QBs stop running. Even when they’re big dudes, they always seem to get hurt. Not sure if it’s an experience or spatial awareness or height issue or what, but just stay in the pocket bros.

Good for him. He's got a great degree to fall back on and has made enough to live on even if he doesn't work again. By all accounts he's a smart guy.

And F the Colts and the Irsays

There once was a QB named Luck
to acquire him the Colts chose to suck
he got hurt because of Grigson
he won't be playing any more pigskin
It's the Colts that Karma chose to fuck
This is far better than the Peter King haiku we all know is coming

anyone else upset this story broke before tomorrow? everyone found out in the worst way possible at Lucas Oil Stadium, and Luck had to do his conference tonight.

What are the salary cap ramifications? Is $25M in 2019 and $6M in 2020 in dead cap money correct?

Don’t begrudge him retiring, but in contrast to the sensitive stylings hitherto offered... I’m not going to pretend I didn’t think of him as “soft” or ever thought he was a great player or scary opponent.

Couldn’t have happened to a better franchise.

Lol. What’ve you done to call him soft?

I don’t have to do anything to call him soft. I’m not trying to be his athletic peer or imagine we share some kind of physical bro connection. I’m a football fan on a message board. My perspective is that football is a very hard sport, but a lot of guys in the NFL have seemed a lot tougher than him.

Another video of Luck getting booed:

Yeah, fuck the Colts. Man, I hate this franchise starting from the owner, these "fans", and right down to their smarmy radio and media dudes who couldn't be more delirious during the Deflate Gate.
The kid at the end who yells out "Luck sucks"...…. what the fuck, man. The only reason anybody cared about your sorry ass, shitbag team during the past six seasons is because of Andrew Luck.

The day a Colts QB stops running is the day he runs out of Luck.

I am assuming you aren't familiar with his injury history. Here are some "highlights" but note the list is not definitive and clearly doesn't reflect the regular beatings NFL players take without reporting something:

November 2015: Lacerated kidney, partially torn abdominal muscle

November 2016: Concussion

January 2017: Shoulder surgery

The guy isn't yet 30 and has suffered countless concussions and internal organ damage not to mention all the muscle and bone injuries he's been incurring since he started tackle football. I guess he is soft compared to say, Mike Webster. But then again, his not-softness came with a great cost.

Cavemen were much less soft than people of today too but I am not sure that makes them superior.

Your perspective is pernicious and leads not only to warped views of masculinity but to people suffering degenerating injuries, including to their brains. I’d urge you to reconsider how you view and express your opinions.

If Andrew Luck were soft, he would have quit a long, long time ago, and he certainly wouldn't have made it all the way to the goddamn NFL.

He's probably endured more physical pain just from playing the sport of football for a few years than most of us will experience in our entire lifetimes.
