Moving the Line
Ah, man, I model my trash talking style around him, just always genuinely compliment your opponents when they do well.

I don’t know, isn’t next year a great QB class? They may have a chance to transation right to their third straight generational talent at the position.
Yeah, Herbert and Tagovailoa are absolutely Top 10 selections at this time, which might be understating things.

I think this is the right choice for his body long term given Irsay, more injuries? He’s sitting on a plenty full bank account, so as much as this is to walk away from, it’s not like he’s sitting on under a million.

Shame they couldn’t get him a line beyond Costanzo and Reitz types early in his career. Dude was absolutely murdered on the regular. Not a doctor, but can’t help but think that didn’t help things leading into today. Safe and smart decision. Wish him very well in his retirement and with his family.

Good for him to decide it wasn't worth it and walk away instead of trying to "tough it out".

Will be interesting to see what Colts do, stick with Brissett? Try to trade for a QB (Bridgewater? Mullens?, Fitzy? Keenum?)

For his sake, I hope Cam Newton is taking notes.

Ryan Grigson is currently getting slaughtered on Twitter, which is only right.

Wasn’t he one of those guys whose dad groomed him from childhood to be a QB?

Either way, I feel for Luck but fuck the Colts.

The Coney Island of my mind
In fact, I'll be happy to wager that he'll be back.
Oh, I'm in on that. Name your charity.

Andrew Luck is a very smart guy with a legit degree, who seems capable of seeing opportunities for competition and success well beyond the football field. I'd be more reluctant to bet that he could name ten starting QBs in the NFL five years from now.

I have three distinct thoughts about this news:
  1. I have no problem with NFL players of any age realizing what a physical toll the game takes on them, and deciding to retire early before they have incurred injuries which could affect them for a lifetime.
  2. As a fan of the game, I am somewhat sad that Andrew Luck will no longer be involved; I thought he was one of the young stars of the game, and was fun to watch play.
  3. As far as the Colts go: HA! Take your Deflate-gate and shove it up your ass. Karma is a bitch, assholes!

He grew up in the professional football world. He's always been around football. Take a year off, see the world, heal the body, clear the mind. And then come back.

Agreed, I think we'll see Calvin Johnson suite up before Luck does.

The tough-guy "What a millenial -- rehabbing wore you down?" takes about a guy who dealt with a ridiculous list of injuries are going to be infuriating.

Ha, Brissett is a free agent at the end of the season as well so their QB situation went to shit real quick.
Jacoby Brissett might be the luckiest 3rd string draftee QB ever. First, he gets to showcase his talents on a top-tier organization because HOF QB1 was suspended and then QB2 was quickly injured. That stint enables a trade to the Colts where gets to start 20 games due to QB1 injury. And now this. He's set for life.

Dearest mother —
I have reached upon my final destination, herein. I have ordered our troops to convene at once to concern our future artillery. My powerful muskets lack any further bullets for our endless war. May our flags fly forever high as combat must continue without me.
— Andrew

This is why I love this place. My word I cry laughed at this.

Belichick begins this?

Luck takes another year off to get healthy. Brady wins another super bowl and retires. Pats sign Luck. Stidham traded for 2 first round picks. Super Bowls continue for the Pats.

What the hell with these “oh no” posts. Fuck that franchise. Do you all have such short memories?
Fuck the Colts, sure, but Luck seems like a genuinely decent and nice guy who has had, on top of bad luck, an abysmal management of his health overall by the team ostensibly motivated to do whatever they can for it. I don't think it's having a short memory to say "man, that guy got the shit end of the stick, and deserved better from his NFL career". Do you remember when he almost stayed at Stanford for another year?

What I'm eagerly awaiting is the Captain Andrew Luck civil war parodies, I'm sure they'll be worthy of the occasion.

Gronkowski retired about 6 weeks before his 30Th birthday. Luck retire about three weeks before his 30Th birthday.

Eh. Take a look at Oliver's career arc for some insight into just how important football is in the Luck family, and it's reasonable to conclude that they look at football as a means, not an end. Andrew's smarter than everyone thinks Ryan Fitzpatrick must be. Tell me if/when I need to pay up the the JF.

You mean the guy who is the currently the Commissioner of the XFL?
Regardless, the JF will eventually get some $ from one of us.

I fucking hate the Colts. This is the best I've felt since the Super Bowl. That franchise deserves to have 40 years of 6-10 seasons.

I was thinking of the guy who played for five years, and then went on to get a law degree, did a legal fellowship in the EU, ran for congress, and ran a MLS team. He's been in football in both the US and Europe, sure, but he uses football, it doesn't use him.

That was my reaction to this news as well.

Fuck the Colts, but this sucks. Luck seems like a good dude, just happened to get drafted by a shitty organization.

The NFL needs more Andrew Lucks, not fewer.

Seriously. Andrew Luck is choosing to walk away with millions in the bank because he doesn’t want to do it anymore. It’s not like it was some tragedy where it’s messed up to celebrate.

Our whiny little brother that was responsible for a 2 year long witch hunt against our team and QB just mismanaged their elite, franchise quarterback into saying “Screw this, I’m out.” before he turned 30. That’s hilarious and I will never fail to smile when Colts fans lament his departure both now and forever into the future. Screw that franchise and it’s fanbase. They deserve this.
