DeAndre Yedlin '93 is back in training with Newcastle following his surgery.

CB Erik Palmer-Brown '97 has gone on loan from Manchester City to Austria Wien. It's his third destination since joining the Man City Loan Army, having previously been with Kortrijk in Belgium and NAC Breda in the Netherlands. This move is one of those where he's going to a lesser league but a better club than his last spot. I hope it goes well; his career hasn't been awful, but it hasn't taken off as hoped.

Hobro continues to add Americans. Now they've signed Louicius Deedson '01, a forward from the Atlanta area and originally from Haiti. He's at times gone by Deedson Vixamar, and IIRC there was some tournament where he really impressed as a guest player for Atlanta United. He never joined Atlanta on a full-time basis, and now he's off to a small club in the Danish Superliga. Despite being labeled as American by the club, I'm not 100% convinced he has US citizenship. An interesting darkhorse guy to follow nonetheless.

Looks like Cameron Carter-Vickers is being loaned to Stoke. Could never break through at top-level EPL.

Stoke is a good move for him and the reports from Tottenham is he has a good attitude. I still think he eventually settles at a low table premiere league team.

US U-20 left back Chris Gloster transferred from Hannover to PSV Eindhoven.

I like this move. Gloster wanted an exit from Hannover, who were relegated to the 2.Bundesliga at the end of last season. He was in the first team picture, but had been reportedly pushing for a move to PSV when interest materialized. He spent last year mostly with Hannover's reserves and will likely begin with PSV's reserve team in the Dutch second tier.

Nearly 20% of this past summer's U20 World Cup team now plays for either Ajax or PSV.

I'll start a new thread for the 2019-20 season soon, but in the meantime it seems like it's going to be a fun year for this topic.

Pulisic made his Chelsea debut, albeit off the bench.

Weah started for Lille.

Steffen and Sargent started for their clubs in the DFB Pokal.

McKennie came off the bench fo Schalke in the Pokal; I think he's just getting back to full fitness after a post-GC break.

Dest made his Eredivisie debut for Ajax after playing in the Dutch version of the community shield.

Gio Reyna had a goal and two assists for BVB U19, while Uly Llanez had two goals and an assist for Wolfsburg U19. For both, it was their first official game at any level for their clubs. The wingers are coming!

Some bad news:

Club Brugge shivved Ethan Horvath by spending €7m on Simon Mignolet. Horvath has had an up-and-down career, but he had a nice season last year domestically and in Europe and is only 24. It's off-brand for a club like Brugge to spend that much on a 31 year old keeper when they have a young and improving incumbent, but it's not the first time that Horvath has been jerked around. This happened late enough in the window that there was no chance of forcing a move elsewhere and so Horvath will likely be stuck behind the expensive famous veteran until at least the January window.

In other news:

Sounders academy product Henry Wingo has transferred to Molde FK in Norway. He has spent 2.5 years in MLS without advancing past the fringes of Seattle's first team; how he does with one of the better teams in Norway will be interesting. There are a reports that there is a six-figure transfer fee. I'd guess that it is in the especially modest lower end of that range, but any money is solid for a player who struggles to make the 18.

There's no official word yet from Fulham, but according to Damian Las' IG, he's signed with them. Las is the starting GK for our U17 team and viewed as the best GK prospect we've had in some time. He's been with Chicago's academy; it's unquestionably good that he's skipping town, something I wouldn't say about all MLS organizations.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see Folarin Balogun making the bench for a couple Europa League group stage matches this fall for Arsenal. He is essentially fourth on the club’s CF depth chart and should be starting most matches for the reserve team now that Eddie Nketiah is firmly ensconced in the first team.

I realize he hasn’t committed to a country yet. But I assume that if he does pick the US he’d be one of the top striking prospects in the youth ranks. He had an insane scoring record last year at U18 club level.
Opened the season with a hat trick for Arsenal U23, btw.

That's not really true. He's been considered Brugge's weak spot for some time now. Sure they're still a top club in Belgium with him, but he has a lot of flaws in his game and is one of the more obvious places they can make improvements. He's a very slow and not particularly good distributor and not a commanding presence in his box. He also can fall apart mentally.

Mignolet didn't just fall into their laps, they had leads on other goalkeepers like Jean Butez of Mouscron. He was gonna get replaced no matter what.

That’s certainly been the book on Horvath but IMO he made some real strides in those areas last year and I hope he finds a place to play so he can continue to improve. It’s a shame it all went down so late that he couldn’t get out this summer.

Excellent assist from Pulisic in the super cup. He’d been getting muscled around, so that was a great response...run through traffic with a lot of pressure on him before the pass.

Steffen and Zimmerman starting for Dusseldorf in opener against Bremen. Sargent not starting for Bremen.

Crazy fact I saw on Twitter: this was the first time an American GK started in a Big 5 league since Howard started a game late in the 2015-16 season.

Steffen has a number of good saves also, including two against Sargent, who in his 10 minutes made a pretty compelling case to get more than 10 minutes next week.
