Venezia have won promotion back to Serie A. Both Tessman and Busio played large roles this season, with Tessman particularly impressive. Busio left the final today with an injury that looked like a pulled hamstring.

Same ownership group. I assume he’ll end up at Strasbourg. I haven’t caught as much MLS this year as I usually do, but it feels like he’s plateaued this season a bit. A move makes a lot of sense for him professionally.

Caleb Wiley's deal to Chelsea/Strasbourg is reported to be done.

Chelsea have reached an agreement in principle with Atlanta United to sign left-back Caleb Wiley.

The 19-year-old USMNT international is set to join for a fee of around £8.5million ($10.9m) and on a contract until June 2031.

Wiley is expected to be sent on loan to Strasbourg next season for regular first-team football.

Can’t rely on player with this kind of injury history. Glad we’re getting a new manager who will not be married to any specific players or in this case midfield configurations.

Adams is a good floor player but he’s hurt all the time across all parts of his little body and isn’t immune to bad mistakes for a guy who isn’t contributing offensively. If you can figure out the right starting mix, Tyler would be a great situational option to bring off the bench in the 2H to hold a lead or start in certain matchups but the idea of him as a locked and loaded started if he’s on the roster should be dead.

I agree, he’s not a player you should build your lineup around anymore. In the past, that might have been the case because of the dropoff to Acosta or whoever else was on the mix. There are certain players who are locked in starters- CP among others- then others who could start or could come off the bench depending on fit with the other players in the lineup, coach’s preferences, and opponent. Adams is in this group now.

It sounds like Tyler made the decision to play knowing that he was hurt and that it could get worse. I know Gregg will get piled on for the decision to play him, but I find it hard to hold him too accountable here unless the medical staff was saying Adams should definitely not play.

I expect Bournemouth to put him in the shop window this winter. We’ll see how Adams approaches that - the right loan spell can help rebuild his value & get him set up for the very important ‘25-26 season, when he needs to be a bang on starter someplace so he’s ready for the WC. A transfer seems unlikely unless Adams will take a significant pay cut (reportedly at £60k/wk) with a bunch of bonuses tied to playing time.

I have a very hard time imagining Bournemouth welcoming him back and letting him fight for a spot when he missed so much of last season and then risked his health this summer. Won’t blame them with being d-u-n done with him.

They really want to sell him, but if the transfer window closes and that doesn't happen this smells to me more like the version "out of the project" that lasts until a three match losing streak and not the version where he's not allowed in the building anymore.

I’m not sure they wanted to sell him that badly, but he made it clear he wants to leave. If they can’t fit his salary into their roster allotment, he might be SOL. It takes a masters in economics to even understand the financial regulations in one country, never mind multiple, but at the very least in La Liga players must be registered with the club, with their salary counted against their allowed expenses. If Venezia don’t have the financial room for him, then he might be out until the winter. At lease according to Transfermarkt Venezia are over €7 million in the red, and seem to have accounted for his sale to balance the books. It’s not a club with much financial flexibility as it is. Serie A strikes me as having long standing financial rules similar to La Liga, but I could be wrong.

In other words, even if they wanted him to play, it’s extremely doubtful he can be added to the roster.

We were told 4 years ago that there would be constant back-room agendas trying to ship him out of town, and that it's all rumor and nonsense until and unless it comes from the coach or sporting director on the record.

We keep falling for the Italian sports tabloids' drama. He's not coming back from the dead, he was never under threat at all. It Was All A Dream, etc.

Tanner Tessmann's move to Inter fell through, reportedly due to agent shenanigans. Then his move to Fiorentina fell through, reportedly due to agent shenanigans. Now he's reportedly on the move to Olympique Lyon. Let's hope this works. Venezia desperately want to sell him because they need the transfer proceeds to buy some other players, and possibly because he might have a clause in his contract that would make him expensive for Venezia if he plays in Serie A.

Anyway, let's hope it works out.

Going from Milan to Lyon is definitely a lifestyle downgrade. Plus he's spent 4 years learning Italian now, probably all for nothin'. Tough breaks for li'l Dabo.

Lyon is close enough to Italy where his Italian might prove useful. Regardless, hopefully he has new representation who doesn’t screw this up. He tried a new agent who apparently had expertise in working with Fiorentina and somehow that backfired.

I hope he never leaves. Milan is a big enough club, he has quickly become a beloved player with a lot of success, a secure spot, and a solid chance of an annual spot in the CL with a better chance of contributing to a league title. And he’s in Italy! Forget about chasing the PL clout. At 26 the wrong move would be devastating to these prime years. Let his next move be to MLS as an old man.

Pepi has started only four games and has zero penalty goals. Obviously there is an Eredivisie tax to apply here, but it’s impressive.

Oh, he gave his man of the match award to a young fan after the game.

Five days ago, as soon as the window opened, Chelsea recalled Slonina. He started hot for Barnsley - won a Carabao Cup penalty shoot out with 2 saves against Wigan to debut and went 6-4-3. But he was making some bad mistakes that led to goals, lost his position mid-October, and then picked up a finger injury in training that has kept him sidelined since.

Hopefully, Gaga can find a good home by the end of the month. He’s definitely getting lost in the loan army. No one works harder that this kid, but he’s got to find a situation where he’s going to get coached up and played consistently.

On the bright side, he was so early in starting a development curve for a GK that a few lost years at Chelsea should put him at about par rather than way behind the 8 ball.

Here's an absolutely crazy and hilarious stat that Doug McIntyre wrote about the other day. These are the youngest players to reach 100 appearances in the Bundesliga:

1. Lothar Matthäus
2. Berti Vogts
3. Marc-André ter Stegen
4.......... Joe Scally

Scally reached this mark in November. Scally is a fine player, but in the context of the Bundesliga he's basically just A Guy for a midtable team. And yet somehow this statistic is real.

He did it under four different managers as well. Part of it was timing. His transfer was agreed pre-Covid and given the financial realities in Germany after Covid, Gladbach were hardly in a position to replace an adequate and cheap piece who beat out other legitimate soccer players for his spot on the team. JAG for sure by Bundesliga standards, but right place, right time.

He’s having a bit of a second breakout this season too. He’s cleaned up his defensive positioning a bit and has really improved going forward.

John Tolkin to Holstein Kiel for $3m is done and announced.

I like this move. Kiel are a desperate relegation battler in the Bundesliga, which is not an ideal situation for a player to walk into midseason. That being said, Tolkin is a solid left back without any glaring weaknesses nor any overwhelming strengths. He has the potential to work his way up to a bigger club that is above the "pure relegation bait" tier, but I don't think a guy of his profile is going to get an initial look from better clubs than this right now. Hopefully he holds is own and can move up in the world sooner or later.

He could lateral to Belgium or Netherlands if the right transfer bid is there, but I think he's either got it or he doesn't and it's time to find out. Worst case scenario this turns out to be a half-season foray in the Bundesliga that is functionally a lateral move to the 2.Bundesliga.
