So, news: After 12 years (eek!), I’m leaving the Boston Globe. I’m headed for http://NHL.com, as a feature writer based in Boston.
Amalie Benjamin is heading to NHL.com. I never heard the full story of why the Sox beat writer to features writer to NHL beat writer transition happened, but I guess she likes the NHL enough to stick with it. I have no strong feelings about her writing; she seems competent and is a solid, unannoying Twitter follow.

I believe she left the Sox beat because she wanted to start a family and the travel wasn't ideal.

Good luck to her. My guess is that she'll hardly have to travel at all writing for the .com.

Plus she's murdered Joe Haggarty on Twitter before. Which is always a positive.

Good for her, both for making that transition from MLB to NHL without skipping a beat. As big a buffoon as Haggerty is, the best part of that whole Twitter exchange was the ultimate pot-calling-the-kettle-black moment:

The Haggerty-Murphy bromance is positively Randy & Lahey-esque

Since when does James Murphy know hockey? His track record is Eklund-quality.

Hijacking the thread a bit (apologies) but my favorite was Haggerty's hare-brained Marchand for Marleau proposal, that Murphy then took and ran with as if it were on the table.

Clowns like that deserve each other

Yesterday NHL.com hired long-time Bergen Record Devils beat reporter Tom Gulitti to cover the Devils. The NHL must be offering good money. I imagine it'll hire a few more like Gulitti and Benjamin.

MLB Advanced Media, MLB's online arm, is paying $100 million a year for all NHL online rights (NHL gets 10 percent stake in MLBAM) so the NHL has a bunch of money to spend on reporters.

Word is that the Globe will not replace Benjamin until next season.
