Alternatives to eBay

I'm hoping some of you might have suggestions on where to resell things online other than eBay. Mostly, I'm looking to resell gently used (or brand new) children's toys and clothing.

I've looked into local consignment stores and the like, but they are very selective about what they buy and pay pennies. I'm sure I could get more by selling online. I can't use eBay. Craigslist is a last resort, but I've used it before and don't enjoy it.

Are there any good alternatives?

Have you tried a yard sale?  Or barter with parents of kids' friends?  (And you wouldn't have to split proceeds with the USPS etc.)

Ebay is the only place to give your fair value, IMHO. (Unless you want to risk standing outside of small stores and somehow propositioning exiting customers.)

Is there anything other than toys and children's clothing?

I've had friends who both bought and sold baby and young child related items through facebook local buy and sell groups with success.  Might be something to check out depending on where you live, though I'm not sure what kind of prices you'll get.

I'm not allowed to have a yard sale in the building I live. I checked.

My child is too young to have many friends. Right now I just want to unload baby stuff.

Bonanza is probably worth a shot.  Traffic is an issue though.
Thanks. Never heard of it. I'll check it out.

Thanks. I don't use Facebook, so I didn't know this existed.

No. It's just a hassle to meet people, half of them never show up, and I would be limited to selling locally. Like I said, it's an option but I was hoping for something like eBay.

"Can't use eBay"??  Too difficult?  Banned?
It's a long story, but basically someone used my information to buy motorcycle parts and ship them to NJ. I reported it to eBay, not having an eBay account at the time. Somehow my info was still flagged, and my new eBay account is permanently suspended and cannot be appealed. They refuse to look into it or allow me to buy or sell.

The money you would be leaving on the table going the consignment route would probably be offset by shipping cost via eBay anyway. We used to use a consignment store that gave better return as store credit (opposed to cash) which was nice.
The bigger problem is that used toys just don't hold a lot of value anyway and many parents are freaked out about 2nd hand toys, especially if it's for toddlers. Maybe try selling it as a lot on Craigslist to reduce the hassle.

Do you have ability to set up a new eBay account with someone else's info? Husband/boyfriend/sister etc? That's where you will get best dollar for anything and you don't need to pay shipping either, you can include it in the price.

I was told if I do this, it will just spread the damage. The supervisor I spoke to claims they have ways of matching these things up to prevent fraud, and that it would just cause others to get their accounts banned as well.

Thank you all for the replies. I took robssecondjob's advice and set up a bonanza account. That site doesn't seem to get much traffic, but perhaps someone here has (or knows someone) with a young baby boy that would be interested in saving money by not buying clothes new.

Another vote for the Facebook "yard sale" type sites. I know you said you're not on FB but it could be worth joining just for this.

As long as that person is not using your same Paypal account or linked bank account for receiving the payment, there is no way Ebay could somehow match it.  Different people, different handles, different accounts, different SS no's.

Anyway, for little stuff Ebay is not worth the hassle anyway.  Sounds like you got some decent advice from others regarding Bonanza and FB.  Joining Facebook is free.
