I know Barnes has been bad this season but what does Ranaudo have to do to get a start?

Also, just a thought--maybe they're open to trading him in one of a few deals and don't want the stench of an awful start to disrupt the momentum of some of those talks?

But also the starting on Fri thing, too :)

Big opportunity for him. If he can show improvement he's probably up to stay. If not then it's probably Workman to the pen and Doubront back in the rotation.

Not here
I'm excited to see him. He's always had the swing and miss stuff and it seemed to me that means if he gets all the other issues worked out, he's got the higher ceiling than the other guys.

If Webster proves that he ready to stick in the majors this time, it will close the book on the Punto trade (roughly on its second anniversary) with the money saved from it better spent on the pieces that brought last year's world championship with 2 live young arms ready to contribute to the next championship ready Sox contender perhaps as soon as next year.  Cherington has proven that he knows how to spend all that money coming off the books a the end of this season even better than he did going into 2013. Hembree and Escobar are already a huge haul for Peavy.  Escobar is roughly in the same position as Webster and DLR 2 years ago with a measure of upper level patience possibly to be rewarded.  For maybe the rest of this season and probably next season, Hembree has the potential to be better than Badenhop and Mujica who are likely soon to be gone.  There should be a lot less pressure upcoming down the stretch for Webster than when he was thrust into the rotation for the eventual world champions last season.  My gut feeling is that he might finally be in the majors to stay.

Saw Webster in his last start on Monday night at Syracuse.  It seemed that he wasn't getting a lot of strikes with his low 90's stuff but was doing well with his offspeed pitches.  Some of the fly ball outs were hit pretty far but died in the deep Syracuse outfield.
