I watched just about every Rockies game last year. Dickerson reminds me of Josh Reddick at the plate. Swings at everything but hits everything pretty hard. The overall numbers have been pretty, but I don't expect him to be able to keep up the average with his strike zone judgement. I think he's a fairly ordinary guy given his mediocre defense and slow foot speed.
Upon further inspection, I'm not sure I get this trade from the Rays' perspective either, unless the plan is to flip somebody. They have a full outfield and two DH types in LoMo and Pearce. I'm a little surprised they couldn't get something more relevant to their needs for McGee.

They're stuck with Loney at 1B too, who is horrendous, or Dickerson would probably make the most sense in the big half of the platoon. My guess is he'll end up there eventually because of the health issues.

Agreed, I like this trade a lot for the Rays, unfortunately.
Dickerson's an injury risk (which could explain their willingness to deal him), but especially if he can DH a few times per week I think he could be really good on that team.

One note: his home/road splits with the Rockies are stunning.
- In 122 games at Coors:.355/.410/.675 with 24 HR
- In 143 games everywhere else: .249/.286/.410 with 15 HR.
I heard an interesting thing recently about Colorado players and their home road splits. Many solid players that leave Col continue to play pretty well (ex. Matt Holliday) and that the struggle that Colorado hitters may face is that when they are on the road pitches move differently and that it takes time for them to adjust after playing a homestand in Colorado.

It isn't simply that Colorado players are helped at home but that they are also hurt on the road because of Coors.

Why must my Rockies be so inept in the front office? A middle of the order, young bat with 4 years of control for a reliever with 2? They better flip McGee at the deadline for something good.

This is correct, and there was a discussion on this forum a few years ago about this very fact, with science included. I will see if I can dig it up.

Breaking balls don't break much at altitude, so going on the road requires a major adjustment, and this fact is exasperated since 3 of the 4 other teams in the division play at or below sea level (LA, SD, SF).

espn: Milwaukee traded SS Jean Segura and P Tyler Wager to Arizona for P Chase Anderson, 2B Aaron Hill and IF Isan Diaz. Anderson was 6-6 with a 4.30 ERA last season and Segura hit .257 in 2015
