the dodgers will crush either team. Kershaw will dominate, Bellinger, Puig, and Seager will go crazy in the WS. Fuck the Yankees, they arent this good
This sounds a lot like how everyone was saying last week how the Astros were so dominant and would crush the Yankees, who weren't that good. And the week before how Cleveland was a far better team and would easily beat them, and the Yaknees weren't that good. I'm tired of hearing that kind of talk.

Every time a team pisses away a playoff game against these assholes the series is lost. The only one who didn't was the D-Backs and Johnson and Schilling ain't walking through that door.

But I'm sure all the posters who are happy to see a good MFY team are thrilled right now.

They are more GMs who helped the cause. O'Connell's mistakes pale to those who helped Gabe Paul.

Well they are not that good. Not over 162 games. But they are built for the short series playoffs. Power hitters, just enough front line starting pitching, and an insane bullpen. Best team in baseball? No. Best team for the playoffs? Looks that way. Credit to Cashman for figuring out the system.

I keep thinking of the other LCS in 2004, in which Houston was even involved. Houston (NL Houston) won three at home to make it 3-2 in their favor, but, back in St Louis, the Cardinals won out. Possible? I think I know what the answers will be.

This past winter they gave Chapman the largest contract for a closer in history. They still have a bloated payroll with underperforming vets (Ellsbury) they just got super lucky their young talent developed overnight.
Well I don’t know if it’s luck that they drafted & developed talent, got Gregorious and Starlin, and traded for two of the best bullpen arms available at the deadline.

The problem for the Yankees over the next few years is probably starting pitching. What are they going to get from CC? Is Pineda ever going to stay healthy and figure it out? Sonny Gray was a great addition given he’s not a free agent until 2020, but his FIP this year was near 4 and he has health issues of his own.

Severino, Otani, Gray, Tanaka, and they have a couple studs who can slide in the 5 spot.

a huge key to this playoff run for the Yanks has been Tanaka and CC. both essentially shut out the Astros. Both are free agents at the end of this season and the Yanks have already said they want to reset their luxury tax penalty (probably looking to the huge FA class next offseason).

so let's pump the brakes a little bit on the dynasty. their SP should be their (relative) weakness next year. until Cashman finds the next scrap heap gold I guess

They handled Chapman well. They traded him for assets then got him rightback, recognizing that bullpen is where you spend when you have a 90 win team.
They were the one organization with the questionable ethics to embrace Chapman when his abuse rap enabled them to cynically buy low, then sell high to the not-quite-as-contemptible Cubs, then double down on their evil by throwing crazy cash at him.

When in doubt, seize the moral high ground.

He does. But it is a mystery what he does.

Do you think with his shaky season and suspect elbow someone will pony up a megadeal for him? What he is doing this postseason is probably pushing him more towards opting out, but I wouldn't have been so sure on Sept. 30th.
Looks like he has 3/67 left. I think he'll opt out. And I wouldn't be surprised if the Yankees give him a new deal.

This is a fantastic summary

Meh, both teams are holding serve. This is going 7.
Astros won two 2-1 games... game 1 was pretty dominant, but game 2 could have gone either way. Yankees outscored the Astros 19-5 in the Bronx.

this isn't quite a holding serve type of series.

Fine.

But the road team has lost every game, and until that changes, I’m sticking with it. Verlander will be nails.

There is a saying. The saying is that momentum is only as good as the next day's starter.

But, unfortunately, this is only a saying. I, myself, have a saying. It is this: "The fucking Astros are platitude resistant and have soiled themselves so fucking badly that the humane thing would be to give their fucking fans their money back and make the Yankees sit around for a few days and potentially get fucking gonorreah or something in their extra fucking off days before the Dodgers, instead of playing game 6." I call it Boil's Platitude.

This shit ain't going seven, because it is impossible to play baseball when your pants are soiled with your own shit and your cup is filled with your own piss because you lost control of your bladder because you got terrified when that gap-tooth frankenstein fucker glanced in your direction.

And even if by some merciful miracle it goes 7, because Yulli Guriell appears to be the one guy impervious to pressure and he gets a lucky hit in the bottom of the tenth, as soon as the Astros get home after game six and have a moment to think "we may actually win this," they will lose sphincter control so suddenly and dramatically that they will be dehydrated for a week and likely unable even to put 9 on the field to play game 7.

Sweet merciful fucking Christ on a cracker. This isn't complicated.

At this point I just want this series to end, over with, done. The Astors have scored a whopping 8 runs in 5 games, this from a team that steamrolled the league all season long. Stating the obvious, but October baseball vs the MFY's is much different than July baseball vs the White Sox.

The Yankees are also loaded with good arms in the minors, that's not a solace. Like, at all. It fucking -starts- with top-flight arms such as Sheffield (Miller deal), Abreu (McCann deal) killing it in the AFL right now, to say nothing of guys like Adams, Acevedo, Tate (Beltran deal), Gallegos (26, but fully expecting the Aaron Fucking Small effect). Not even counting Montgomery who has MLB experience and appears solid as a back-end option for short-term cheap. Then we've got your mix of lotto ticket arms (some young, some good upside despite age) like Cortes, De Paula (Gamel trade), Feyereisen (Miller deal), and Finley.

Respect the hell out of how Cashman has built them, but good god. I am nauseated. Holding my nose high for 2001 redux, where the home team takes every game, but at this point, I'm not even kidding myself. Severino and Verlander can keep at each other for some time in Game 6, but give it an inning or two for the Asstro bullpen to light themselves on fire with jet fuel, who give the Yankees a few cookies for 2-3 runs, which they won't Houston won't touch respond, despite a few teases to second and third with no outs.

Also, Big Papi imitating the Sterling Yankees victory bit is going to make me puke for real. And he did it twice.

worst-ever batting average in a best-of-seven series is .142, by the 1966 Dodgers in the World Series. Astros now batting .147 in the ALCS

Here's the problem with any imagined scenario in which the Astros win. There is not one single person on or associated with that team who actually believes they can win, except for Kate Upton and Hinch's mom. And Kate actually doesn't really care that much. Most of it is pretend.

There was a moment when the Astros believed they could win. It happened right after Castro's error. It lasted about 8 seconds. They allowed themselves to believe, stared into that abyss, collectively pooped themselves, and it was gone.

Poof. Fucking Abra cadabra. Poof.
