It will go seven.  And the Royals will win and Buck will go down in agonizing fashion befitting the little bitch that he is.

I'm rooting for the Royals to win it all at this point.  I went with Royals - Royals - 5 games in the poll.

I would've loved for a Royals / Nationals World Series, but that's not looking too likely (unless Millar sneaks into the Washington clubhouse before game 3 tomorrow).

I like it. Congratulations to both teams. It's been easy to hate the Orioles lately, especially with Ol' Buck in charge, but it doesn't change the fact that this is a proud franchise that has been down for a long time. The exact same with the Royals. So, IMHO, "it's good for baseball". It's good one of these teams will be in the World Series this year.
That said, I'll be rooting hard for the Royals. What's not to like?

Why are there options for 1-3 games in the last question?
and this is why SoSH is what it is.  A Yankees message board would've missed that and someone would've stupidly voted for one of those three responses.  Other than ghoff, I can't imagine anyone here would do so.

I'd love to see the Royals crush them, but the O's played very good ball to take out the Tigers.

I'd have loved it if the Pirates won in, now Washington is a game from elimination...I don't really have anyone to root for in that side. I guess the Dodgers since they haven't won recently...fuck the Giants/Cards.

To be honest people will say the ratings are going to suck in the ALCS. But I think we will be surprised.

I doubt it, I think they're going to be shit. I don't particularly care but I'm having a hard time buying that people are going to watch a Royals-O's ALCS.

How long will it take for this series to turn into a sabermetrics v. tradition narrative, with Mike Gimbel getting resurrected?

It's hard for me to find a rooting interest.

As childish as Duquette acted when Theo got hired, I kind of like the idea of he and Buck getting to the ALCS.  They both seem like guys who just love baseball but have difficult personalities.

I'm pretty happy for Rany Jazayeri to be able to root for his team in the ALCS.  Of course, Rany's been KILLING the Royals for years for all of the moves that led to this moment, so it's a little weird to see him now fully embracing Yost&Moore because things are improbably working out.

Meh, its really no different than what happened here prior to '04.  There were quite a few folks on this site who were hyper critical of some of the moves that Theo and the trio made, even if they were of the new school variety.  Even if you don't love everyone involved with your team, fanaticism wins out.

This is a stupid fucking question

http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24739580/royals-vs-orioles-looking-ahead-at-the-2014-alcs

The Orioles have a big roster decision to make. Suspended 1B/3B Chris Davis served 17 games of his 25-game sentence during the regular season and then another three games in the ALDS. That means he wouldn't be eligible to play until a possible Game 6 against the Royals. The problem for Baltimore is that he'd have to be added to the ALCS roster prior to Game 1. That, in turn, would mean that the O's would be playing Games 1 through 5 with ade-facto 24-man roster. Will Buck Showalter and Dan Duquette willingly take on such a disadvantage for just two potential games from a bat-first player who OPS'd .704 during the regular season? That doesn't seem likely.

Decent rotations, strong bullpens, strong defenses, beautiful ballparks, shitty owners.

Royals in 6. Can't turn against them now.

Especially considering that the O's are doing just fine without him. I wasn't paying very close attention, but I believe it was mentioned during yesterday's broadcast that whether or not he is added to the ALCS roster will be left up to a vote by the players. If that's really the case, I bet Chris Davis is one very lonely man right now.

Having a vote is even dumber than putting him on the roster in the first place. First of all, this is Management's decision - this is what they are paid for. Secondly it puts the players in a bad position where they will probably feel they have to vote for Davis - even though its a big handicap. And if Davis loses the vote how's is he going to feel about that?

Stupid, stupid stupid. Just deactivate him.

Amazing that 36 people "think" the O's will win, but only 4 "want" them to win.

Seriously; fuck them, can't stand that team.

Their 40 home run PED cheater was the hero yesterday; awesome, the cherry on top of the shit sundae, just wonderful.

I did see the Orioles getting there, I chalked that up as a bad nightmare; as far as the Royals, I didn't think they'd win the play in game, let alone beat the Angels and get to the ALCS, but here we are..........

Am I the only one with a soft spot for the Orioles because of Dan Duquette?

As I said in the NLDS thread, dude got Pedro Martinez (Pedro. Martinez.), Manny Ramirez, Jason Varitek, Derek Lowe and others on the Red Sox roster.

He also got a bum rap and was out of baseball for 10 years, while guys like Rueben Amaro Jr. lit their franchises on fire with impunity.

I don't love the Orioles, but I wouldn't mind seeing the Duke get his due.

Edit: And don't get me wrong, I'm not one of the people who credits Duquette over Theo/the new owners for the 2004 Series (or excuses all of Duke's decisions -- filling out the rotation with Pat Rapp and Mark Portugal), but I do think that the guy helped get the Sox where they are. Hell, for getting Pedro alone the man deserves our undying gratitude.

I want the Royals to win in five so they can celebrate at home, but I'd be surprised if the Orioles don't beat them in less than seven games.

I'd love to see another Show Me State Series, but I have a feeling we're headed for a Halloween Series between the teams sporting the black and orange uniforms.

I'm not rooting for Baltimore, but Dan Duquette winning a ring would drive mediots like Dan Shaughnessy certifiably insane, so there's that.

Also, Duquette absolutely deserves a share of the credit for 2004 (Pedro, Manny, Tek, Lowe, Damon, Nixon).

Good point; if they win it, I'd be happy for him.

And only him.

Lowe and Varitek for Slocumb was flat out robbery without using a gun.

And why he was out of baseball for ten years is a mystery, unless it was his choice.

Just please don't have a Kansas City/St Louis World Series.
Don Denkinger doesn't understand the issue here.

This is going to be legitimately fun. Baltimore should be heavily favored, but Kansas City's been remarkably resilient through this postseason. I'll embarrass myself and say Royals in 7, after Yost pulls his starter in the fifth and somehow wins it in the 20th.

Nope. And not just that--nearly the whole team is really likable to me. Adam Jones is easily one of my favorite players in baseball. I get not liking the manager, but really, I can't get worked up about the second-most self-possessed manager in the AL East.

Yeah, PEDs and Cruz/ Davis. Oh well. Not exactly just a BAL thing.

edit--still rooting hard for KC, though. Rooting for the AL to win the WS overall.

Props to Duquette and I too like Adam Jones. But go Royals. Possibly the most fun non Red Sox team to root for other than the 2010 Torture Giants in the past two decades.

I feel like Yost has a Grady Little moment in him at some point.

I remember watching the Sox beat the A's in 2003 and obviously feeling good about it but being terrified of Grady.  I was at Game 4 and I was losing my mind that he wouldn't pull Burkett.  Burkett was a below average pitcher who was entering the 6th inning at 100 pitches.  Not only did Grady send him back out clinging to a 1-run lead in an elimination game, but he left him there after a single, a lineout to 3B, and a triple.  Predictably, Jermaine Dye crushed a HR to turn a 1-run lead into a 2-run deficit.  The only reason most don't remember that gaffe is because Ortiz hit a 2-run double in the bottom of the 8th that Dye lost in the sun.  An extra cloud in the sky that day and Grady is the goat a week sooner.

Yost has been tapdancing through the minefield, I think he steps on one and gets blown up sometime this series.

Normally they just lose their travel day.

Looking at the schedule of the two series, if they were rained out tonight, they'd open their series tomorrow at 4:07, and play play Game 2 on Sunday afternoon (Giants-Cards is already scheduled for Sunday night), and then fly out to KC.  Game 3 is scheduled for Monday at 8:07.

The Ravens are on the road this week so there should be no complications with parking in the area.

That's totally manageable.

It's true.  Showalter is kind of an asshole, but he's the genius he thinks he is compared to Yost.

Yet another bit of adversity to overcome, Royals!
