My long national nightmare is over.
Tell me about it. It's not like I hate the Blue Jays, but the whole idea that they are Canada's team was offensive to me. I kind of get it. People want to get behind a winner and be excited. But trying to make it some sort of national identity thing, complete with a blue Budweiser can, seems tacky. There needs to be more choice. Bring back the Expos!
Anyway, there is genuine interest in baseball up here, so that can't be bad.
I will join the chorus in congratulating Cleveland. They are playing so well, and I'm thrilled to see Tito pulling all the right strings.

Didn't realize the regular season was so short this year

When Sox aren't there I go for fun and usually not the team that knocked my team out.
I guess it's just me who loves watching Donaldson and EE bombs over Jason Kipnis singles?
So I guess you wanted to end the Red Sox sole claim on the greatest comeback of all time? And by a shitty rival no less.

Sound familiar?
He drove the bus for the Indians on Wednesday, and toward the end of their celebration, Indians president Chris Antonetti stood toward the front of the clubhouse, shivering from the booze bath he’d taken, when first baseman Mike Napoli screamed to no one and everyone.

“Let’s take a plane to Vegas!” Napoli said.

“That’s the next one,” Antonetti said.

“Seghi,” Napoli said, calling for Indians traveling secretary Mike Seghi. “[Expletive] this! Let’s go to Vegas!”

“Hey!” Antonetti said. “That’s the next one. We already talked about this. We’re stopping on our way back after we win.”

“Awwwww,” Napoli said. “You’re getting me excited.”

Even with 2 months to go, this is a contender for auto-correct of the year.

And I'll still put Jimmy Fund money on the NL over the AL in the WS this year. Straight-up, first takers up to $100 total.
I'll take that bet, just for the fun of it. I have the AL. No odds necessary.

edit - for $100
For the record, @johnmd20, we're on for the bet still. Realized I never confirmed.

Not that rooting against him now will diminish my love for Terry Francona. Here's a great ESPN piece (I know, I know) today on how he manages the personal-relationship side of getting the most out of his team. He's not as far ahead of Bochy, Maddon and others as Belichick is of the other NFL coaches, but he's still probably the best manager in the majors.

I was rooting for the Tribe, but I'm not at all sure that the BJs (typically) are not the 2nd most likable team in the AL East.
Probably. I can't stand the O's or the Rays given some of the nonsense that's happened with the Sox, so it isn't one of those two. I'm not a fan of John Gibbons but the Jays have some good players and Mark Shapiro seems like a smart guy.

I could never put the Yankees as my '2nd favorite' anything but I've respected Brian Cashman for a long time, and I have to grudgingly tip my cap to Joe Girardi for getting as much out of his team as he seems to do every year (seriously ... for once, I wish the Yankees would just out-and-out suck one of these years).

His son. Dad retired in 1974, son started in 1975 and has been "Director of Travel" since.

From a google search that led me to the Cleveland Indians Encyclopedia.

edit:
too slow
That's pretty cool. I love those historical connections. Phil Seghi was one of those names I;d always see in the Sporting News in the early 70s (usually explaining why the Indians wouldn't suck *this* year). But as a not_Indians fan, it was just one of those "baseball names."

I'll contribute 500 when the world series is over win or lose. But if Cleveland wins, you have to put up 100.

I love Tito but having followed both of their managerial careers pretty closely, I would say Bochy is his peer. To me, they are the two best managers in baseball in terms of how they transform from regular season mode to playoff mode in almost ruthless fashion. I would love to see them manage against one another in a World Series - it would be like watching two grandmasters face off.
