I wanted the Yankees, and most of me still does (small shift because of how bad Oakland looked tonight), but one playoff game at YS was enough to generate more rage than I've felt in a while.
Yep. I was there for the game when the Sox clinched the AL East, and it was incredibly fun, but my hate level grows every time I am around those fans. Every time, without fail. It's kind of life sucking.

If the Red Sox put up 3 games of the kind of offense the A's displayed tonight it won't matter who they throw. I don't expect that to be the case though. YMMV.
This line of thinking is where I’m getting to. If we lose, it’ll be because the league MVP, best pitcher in baseball, slugging DH, and shutdown closer etc etc. didn’t do enough. If that happens then oh fucking well what can you do?

The fans usually get to me too, and they have tonight, but Luke Voit is really taking up all of my mental energy lately. It's like someone said "build a more hateable Brett Gardner" and succeeded.

They wouldn't. Oakland doesn't have a JDM or Betts and the Sox are infinitely better at taking advantage of mistakes. The error by Andujar or Voit would have been 300 runs for you guys.

We can. Your bullpen is shit and your rotation suspect.

Just trying to create some rivalry hate :)
I just hope when those nice young men from the Yankees arrive in Boston they have all remembered to shave. I do declare I just don’t know what I would do if they had stubble.

I'm going to enjoy it and hate it no matter how it comes out. What's the protocol, have we ever done combined gamethreads?

Edit: and where have you been with this in the Sox gamethreads ಠ_ಠ

Ugh, I'm still excited about the playoffs, and think the Sox can beat the Yankees, but not really looking forward to a bunch of 5 1/2 hour 9 inning games.

You gotta ask @jon abbey about that. I would have palpitations sharing a game thread and I'm 100% confident I would find ways to piss off half of SoSH with my hot takes. First time Alex Cora chirps like a chicken from the dugout, I'll be all over it.

Separate threads, just like when they play in the regular season.

I'd like to state once again that I absolutely hate this policy and indeed mocked it yet again tonight in the first inning (to the people watching with me, not here).

LOL, I guess maybe I'm the only one. My friends and I are brutal to each other to the point that strangers think we hate each other so I guess I'm used to letting things roll off my back in fun.

Really? We have a dozen* Yankee regulars, most of which have great board standing. I feel like it would be fun.

* number found in my ass

Reminds me of this (used to use it in class for pluralism):

Yep. There’s a reason why I don’t invite my good friends who are Yankees fans over for Sox-Yankees games.

Those who want to venture over to the opposite thread, for whatever reason, are free to do so. I’ll stay on my side of the street, thank you.

If we've gotten to this point via a shared understanding of limits, I don't suggest ruining a good thing.

I don’t think it can last much longer. Another couple years.

Ok. Let's all calm down and take a deep breath. What always happens after the wild card round in the NFL? Some team looks great strafing some shitbag 9-7 team and analysts everywhere start hyperventilating about how the divisional round opponent better be careful. The next thing you know its 24-3 at halftime for the home team.

The Yankees will enjoy their day of ESPN ballwashing, and then reality will set in as the big boy playoffs start and have to face a real team.

I had no idea about 2004. But in 2007 and 2013 you knew, you just knew the Red Sox were winning it because they were baseball's best team all year.

The Red Sox will punch this team in the mouth. Bring it.

OK, Hubert Cecil.
I don’t know who that it is. But I read it as Humbert Cecil. And then I imagined Cecil Cooper in Lolita. The Jeremy Irons one, not the Kubrick.

But then I saw it was Hubert.

I still got nothing.
