Sources: The Boston Celtics are progressing towards a series of sign and trade deals to enable them to re-sign Al Horford, while also maintaining the full MLE.

If Al comes back I’ll be over the moon. The Celtics were the mystery team the entire time! What a twist!

Well then.

Wouldn’t the Celtics have discussed this with him?

This makes zero sense if they are indeed working a sign and trade. Al's the one and only reason to do it since they'd be giving up assets
Well, they do get to keep the full MLE, but agree that's not worth significant draft assets they might have to include to get it done.

It’ll be our first or the Bucks first we picked up on draft night. If they have target for MLE it’s worth it.

I’m hoping that source close to Horford is out of the loop. Because pulling that off would be incredible.

Kyrie —> Kemba
Horford —> Horford
Baynes —> MLE

Hayward —> Hayward+
Tatum —> Tatum+
Brown —> Brown+

Sources: The Boston Celtics do not have a commitment from Al Horford to re-sign, but know they can't get one without the ability to offer him a deal at market value. Thus, they are arranging S&T deals to even be able to make the offer to Horford, while maintaining full MLE.

It would make sense for Horford's people to be suggesting the number must be high---that would sort of reconcile the Bulpett reports and the moves.

where I was last at
Would the Celts S&T with KI/Nets and presumably have to give up a good pick if Al hadn't generally agreed to terms?

Can the pick in that trade be contingent to a player (Horford) signing?

I don’t think they would be willing to give up a “good” pick (i.e. Memphis) in any event, and all their other picks are roughly similar end-of-first-round type picks.

And I’m not positive but would assume a sign and trade can’t be contingent.

Yeah, to me those are bigger splashes. But could just be a wording thing.
Yeah, I think at the end of the day this will come down to whether the Celtics wanted 33-37 year-old Al Horford on a big contract. We shall see.
