I don’t see a thread anywhere on this – maybe some of it’s integrated in the main board discussions – but the season just ended. Unfortunately, Chavis (and Stankiewicz) were out with injury, but 6 other Sox prospects did play: Mike Shawaryn, Josh Ockimey, Josh Taylor, Bobby Dalbec, Esteban Quiroz and Darwinzon Hernandez. Here are the Sox numbers as members of Mesa:

There were at least a few good performances. Most notably, Hernandez’s SO/IP was eye-popping, although it looks like Mesa used him in relief where the SO numbers probably played up. Still, this part of his game continues to impress. He’s a work in progress with control and secondary pitches, but has a pretty big upside. Mike Shawaryn also impressed and looks close to getting a serous look in Boston, probably as a reliever. Fringe prospect Quiroz also did pretty well. On the other side, it was more of the same from Dalbec – power but tons of the strikeouts, and Ockimey struggled as well.

Thanks for posting.

Dalbec is tantalizing, particularly because he projects to be a pretty good defender at 3b. But his numbers just continue to be so bizarre. (I would offer a SSS warning, except his AFL numbers seem to be dead-on trend with his numbers from Salem and Portland). He had more extra base hits (9) than singles (7). He takes a good amount of walks which makes his OBP almost presentable. But the guy just can't get enough hits. I don't care if he strikes out a ton but a corner infielder needs more than a .219 (AFL) or .257 (combined A and AA) batting average for me to see a viable path to the majors.

Josh Ockimey is just about toast isn't he?
