For the Pats to get in with a loss, are the Steelers a factor? I thought they needed both a Dolphins and a Steelers loss, but the Athletic has just the Dolphins game being important.

Not really what that article says, imo. If you read the Steelers scenario you can back out that if the Pats lose they need Fish and Steelers to also lose.

Not saying that’s incorrect but it’s odd they wouldn’t put that detail in the Pats’ section.

Article seems cursory. The Miami odds are also weird. They are a 3.5 point home favorite (ESPN) and if win are in. Athletic odds are ~42%. Seems low.

It's always good to get in, plus the Pickett factor you mentioned. I imagine you'll remember knocking out the Shitbirds and giving Ben one last hurrah a lot more than the end result.

It's tough to see the Broncos being good given how hamstrung they are, but they've still got a really good defense. The Bears will have a ton of money and draft capital (besides the Claypool pick, my word) and the Jets are a QB away if they can find it.
That was fun - until the KC game. :(

I think there is the potential for three top 50 picks with Claybool trade pick coming in at 33 or 34. Wasn't expecting that at all.

The Jets will always be a QB away. :)

MIA gets the last spot. I bet the Steelers fans hate the Jets, pitiful performance

I am a Steelers fan and knew they were in trouble having to rely upon the Jets and Joe Flacco.

From being 1-4, then 2-6 with a rookie QB, I am still rather surprised they went 7-2 down the stretch and finished with Tomlin's 16th straight winning season. No banners for that though.

9-2 with Watt and 1-6 without him.

Those brutal home losses to Jets and Pats were the killer.

KC is annoyingly close to tracking down the Patriots' 8 straight AFCCG appearances and references to it as the "Belichick-Brady invitational". They've hosted each of the past 5 years, all 5 years of the Mahomes Era.

2018: 1-seed. L 31-37 (OT) vs NE.
2019: 2-seed, #1 BAL upset by TEN. W 35-24 vs TEN. (SB: W 31-20 vs SF)
2020: 1-seed. W 38-24 vs BUF. (SB: L 9-31 vs TAM)
2021: 2-seed, #1 TEN upset by CIN. L 24-27 vs CIN.
2022: 1-seed. Will play (#3) CIN in a rematch.

Meanwhile the run of 8 straight AFCCGs in the Brady-Gronk Era only saw us host 5 of the 8:

2011: 1-seed. W 23-20 vs BAL. (SB: L 17-21 vs NYG)
2012: 2-seed, #1 DEN upset by BAL. L 13-28 vs BAL.
2013: 2-seed; visits #1 DEN. L 16-26 @ DEN.
2014: 1-seed. W 45-7 vs IND. (SB: W 28-24 vs SEA)
2015: 2-seed; visits #1 DEN. L 18-20 @ DEN.
2016: 1-seed. W 36-17 vs PIT. (SB: W 34-28 (OT) vs ATL)
2017: 1-seed. W 24-20 vs JAX. (SB: L 33-41 vs PHI)
2018: 2-seed; visits #1 KC. W 37-31 (OT) @ KC.

I actually think they have a pretty good chance of tying the Pats. They're going to be good year in and year out unless Mahomes suffers a terrible injury. It'll be interesting, though, if they don't get the #1 seed, because then they'll have to win 2 games to get there.

Three years is a long time in the NFL.
