For what it's worth, Brian Billick said this morning that 3 interviews, starting on Thursday, leading up to a Sunday game is a bit unusual.

even if they're over the phone/skype... one would expect Wisenhunt to have to do a bunch of preparation for each discussion (he would be pitching his vision of what to do with each team/roster after all).

Might not matter at all, but I am glad none of Denver's coordinators agreed to do interviews until after the team is done playing.

I hate that crap, and it would be fantastic if it didn't happen. Like, if the commissioner banned it. Obviously that wouldn't do anything about the annual interviewing fiasco in college football, but at least the NFL could control what the NFL does.

That would put assistants at a disadvantage, as in the anal retentive NFL waiting until after the playoffs to do job interviews is deemed a hardship.

By the way, in re the Broncos and Peyton, this is a pretty good summary of his playoff futility:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/2013/story/_/id/10266254/are-peyton-manning-one-dones-fault

Conclusion? I hate to be a killjoy, and I tried until I was dizzy to spin these stats, I really did, but there's no way around it. As great as he is, in the opening games of the playoffs, as my colleague Bomani Jones likes to say, Manning suffers from "First-degree lemonbooty."

Supposed to be pretty windy here in Colorado tomorrow. That may help the Bolts a bit.

Yeah, looking at the forecast, it does appear pretty windy. However, that can cut both ways--my impression is that the guys who don't throw tight spirals are the ones who struggle. I don't think Rivers throws a particularly tight ball either.

As some people posted about earlier this season, Manning has adapted to his burgeoning decrepitude by mastering the short passing game, though, which is obviously much safer in high winds.

This also suggests he's becoming more like Brady. I don't like it.

Per Scott Kacsmar of Football Outsiders:

@FO_ScottKacsmar: KC & CIN gone last week. Peyton Manning's 19-1 against them. Indy (0-1) out. Now it's his career's two biggest threats: SD (7-6) & NE (7-14)

So against the 2 remaining foes in SD and (if he advances) NE, Manning is 14-20 against.

Of the foes already out of the AFC bracket, Manning is 19-2.

Last week I rooted for this matchup for pretty obvious reasons. This week I remembered that I rooted for the Giants over the Packers in the 07 playoffs and the Ravens over the Broncos last year.

Lesson learned - I am agnostic. Though the one SB matchup I'd prefer to avoid is SF if the Pats get there.

Hoo-hoo-hoo hoosier land.
I'm rooting for the Chargers simply because of the homefield advantage angle. Otherwise I agree with DC that history has taught us that the team you least want to face is the one who has won 2 tough road games in a row.

The pressure on PM this week--and next if he makes it that far--is going to be immense. Kits unfair, but his legacy will take another big hit if he fails to win a SB this year.

I'll take my chances with that over the objectively better team with the Hall of Famer under center any day.

Sometimes you get the '11 Giants.  It's just as possible you get the 2010 Jets.  I believe the 2000 Ravens were the last wild card team to actually win the AFCCG?

Ed: Forgot the '05 Steelers didn't win their division.  Meh.

Here
Spike, I am not rooting for the Broncos, but good luck for you! If we say shit about Denver, please don't take it personally.

Fuck Manning and his stupid forehead.

That is perfect.

BTW, too many other threads to pick a spot for this, but let me offer my congratulations to you Pats fans on last night. Excellent win in challenging conditions. I was pulling for the Colts, for obvious reasons, but NE simply crushed them. Congrats and hope to make you cry in Denver next week!
