Saved the taxpayers a bunch of money between the appeal and having him in prison for the next 50 years

What a sad story this guys life was. Had everything then dead a few years later.

I suspect there are going to people who try to argue it was staged.

I don't think it was, he was clearly completely fucked up on every level.

But in light of the world we live in, someone will say it.

Since he died while the Odin Lloyd verdict was being appealed, does that conviction automatically get vacated? I am thinking of Kenneth Lay, (Enron) whose conviction was vacated when he died immediately after his trial even though he was found guilty? Does the same precedent apply? That was federal.

Maybe he realized that despite the acquittals he was still spending the rest of his life in a cell? Or maybe he through his Cheerios had an off taste that morning?

I'll admit that it's odd - or at least jarring - but I'm not sweating the "why" here.

Yeah, the why is that he was an NFL superstar who threw away his shot at a cushy life due to the fact that he enjoyed murdering people and got caught. That cushy life is gone and the rest of his life was going to be spent in jail.

That's a pretty huge fall from grace.

No...he needed to be found guilty of the double murder for that to happen
I know it pales in comparison to the absolute tragedy of the situation, but how come the Pats got no cap relief after he was found guilty of the murder in 2013? Don't mean to post in bad taste, and feel free to move if appropriate.

Such a waste he turned out to be. Obviously a talented athlete, could have had anything he wanted. That this is his end game is surprising to me. I figured he would be spending the next 30 years in and out of court rooms fighting charges and lawsuits. Guess I was wrong.

From what I read about him initially going to prison was that he fit in there. Like, he was a guy who was perfectly comfortable being in prison. That's why I'm pretty surprised by this. He wasn't some rich millionaire caught up in ponzi scheme that went to federal prison. He was a lifelong gangster who did

I disagree. He didn't fall from grace. He was a street thug from the start. Shot those two people at the age of 17 as a freshman in Gainesville. Got away with it. He rose to grace but he could never outrun his past. He may not have been a teenage murderer, but I wouldn't bet against it. Dudes a coward. Didn't want to do the time.

The reporter Michelle McPhee was on EEI a couple of days ago and said the motive for him killing Odin Lloyd was because Lloyd knew he was gay.
They are now talking to "Rabbit" who is a semi-regular on the show who has spent much time in prison and he is saying the fact that she said that is why he killed himself. Hernandez is a Blood and being gay isn't acceptable. Rabbit supposedly talked to Hernandez on the phone yesterday.

I wouldn't normally pass rumors like this but this is being broadcast on Boston radio.

Just heard on ESPN radio, the team is still planning on going ahead with plans to meet President Trump today. What a circus that will be. It was already going to be a strange experience but now it is a tragedy.

Had it been appealed yet?

A man is found hung to death in an empty room, with absolutely no furniture, and only a puddle of water on the floor. How did he die?

Death by poison, of course.

Because he signed the new contract after the Lloyd death, I believe.

The 2012 murders happened before he signed his contract extension, that's why they would've had the chance to get back the guaranteed money that accelerated onto their cap when they released him. The 2013 murder happened after the contract was signed.

Yep. Gerry is "very happy this scumbag is dead" and they are "100% sure" that something said on their show is the reason. Hernandez, according to Kirk & Callahan, killed himself because their show was the only one brave enough to report that Hernandez was gay, that Hernandez killed Lloyd because Lloyd said Hernandez was gay, and that Hernandez killed himself because "it got around" that Hernandez was gay.

All this on the word of a guy named "Rabbit" who is apparently a "Friend of the Show" - and who, while being interviewed, sounded like a guy struggling to remember his lines.

TL;DR - Kirk and Callahan have managed to turn Hernandez's suicide into something they facilitated. And being gay is a "good" reason to kill yourself. And don't forget, you heard it here first on Kirk & Callahan.

There is crap radio, there is shameless self-promotion, there is regressive gay-bashing - and then there is Kirk and Callahan, who do all of that better than anyone else. Unafraid to put a nameless "source" on the air, feed him lines, and then claim to have broken the "real story".

Not that it would be a factor to cancel/not, but I wonder how many players on this team also played with Hernandez. I remember hearing the stat of how many were on the SB49 team and I was shocked that number was so low.

13 from the '12 team by my quick count, 14 if you include Vollmer. Possible I missed someone but ballpark that's the number

You expect them to cancel over this? Not sure why the death of a former player they have disavowed would impact any of their plans whatsoever. Apparently the Patriots have already said they'd be making no comments today about Hernandez.

There's nothing tragic about this guy's death. Nothing. The tragedy is the wake of destruction he left behind, specifically the people he hurt/killed and the child he orphaned.

As for Kirk and Callahan...funny how people expected the show to improve once Dennis left. If anything, it's gotten worse. Strange to think JD might actually have been a moderating influence.

At least OJ stuck it out.
He's going to make parole in a few months. There was light at the end of his tunnel. Hernandez was going to die in jail and then still had to pull 4-5 on top of that.

But honestly, I always felt OJ would have trouble doing the time.

This is where I am at too. I was shocked when I heard the news this morning. From everything you read about the guy, getting life in prison was almost a badge of honor for him. He's a lifelong gangsta/thug who just happened to be really good at football.

I think it goes to show we really don't know what goes on inside the minds of guys like Aaron Hernandez. His outward, seemingly cool and calm demeanor, could very well have been masking a lot of inner turmoil.

He was at least a year or more away from having the Lloyd appeal being concluded, and the chances of that being successful were about 1%.

As for the cap space, there were 2 aspects:

1.) The Pats refused to pay Hernandez some roster bonuses that would have been due to him had Hernandez stayed with the team throughout his contract. The Pats did not get charged those bonuses against the cap.

2.) The Pats sought relief on the accelerated signing bonus cap hit, but that likely went out the window when Hernandez was found not guilty.
