Let the Post DD Era begin.

There's a game between hated rivals tonight at Fenway. Or is it a day game?

Who is pitching? I have no idea.

But this is Sam Horn and we have game threads for Red Sox games.

So here one is.

The first day of the rest of your life.

That said, even as he’s overseen the start of a repopulating of the team’s prospect pool, Dombrowski showed a propensity to double-down in costly fashion on bets that had paid off once. He re-signed Nunez despite medical questions at the start of 2018 – a move that ultimately not only helped push the team over the third and highest luxury tax threshold in that championship season (with consequent draft pick penalties), but that also offered little return and that constrained the team’s 2019 payroll. With more than $20 million in payroll flexibility this winter, he re-signed other players who’d been acquired on efficient deals – Pearce and Eovaldi – to contracts that played a significant role in the team’s offseason.

In re-signing Eovaldi and then reaching a long-term deal with Chris Sale, Dombrowski put the Sox in a position where – based on their payroll projections and a significant desire to get under the luxury tax threshold sometime in the next two years to reset the penalty structure – they’ll likely end up parting with J.D. Martinez, Mookie Betts, or possibly even both this winter.
From Speier. this scares me greatly - resetting the luxury tax is going to be very painful.

this is a 7:10pm start, Paxton vs ERod.

I think that Speier is correct. If they want to keep Mookie, JD has to go. If JD doesn't opt out and they choose to keep him, the Sox likely trade Mookie to start restructuring the team. It could be a tough season next year, so let's stick it to the MFY today and hurt their chances at getting home field in the playoffs.

Mookie's new contract isn't going to be OUTRAGEOUSLY higher than it is this year. IF we assume 30/year, then it's 10m more than this year. With Porcello coming off the books that frees up 20m. Find a starter for 10m, and give Mookie the other 10.

I know it's more complicated than that, but still...I like simple things. I'm a simple man.

Brave new world: Betts RF, Devers 3B, Bogaerts SS, Martinez DH, Vázquez C, Travis 1B, Holt 2B, G. Hernández LF, Bradley Jr. CF, and Rodriguez LHP

I imagine a lot of this game will be DOB (if he's back from ACC coverage), Remdawg and Eck (will he still be around?) talking about DD & 2020. Speier will be around in the 3rd. It's been 4 years since the product on the field was this irrelevant.

and unfortunately BC, most of Porcello's money is going to Sale's raise as he starts his extension. and we may get a fat 0 innings from him next year. I think Sale's extension ultimately expedited DD's exit.

He threw to Varitek and then spoke a bit, thanking everyone, including the Yankees for visiting him. Looked good but his legs definitely looked skinny. Ran up the steps of the dugout.

Surprised how positive Remy and Eck are talking about Dombrowski. Seemed surprisingly upset about the decision and not afraid to voice it.

The Little League story made me chuckle.

Good to know even major leaguers were terrorized by those weird ass 12 yr olds with beards.

Also, Eck's joy at the role-reversal later in life.

7 rows deep at Stade Fasciste. Been enjoying Michael Kay discoursing on Fenway's LF dimensions - sans the mention, of course, that at 314' and an 8' wall, RF in the Bronx represents the lowest bar for a HR in the league. Kay puts the CON in condescension.
