Because it is (my first game thread start). That's what happens when you expand the roster. You want Pedro. You get Devern Hansack.

Undefeated Nathan Eovaldi on the hill for the Sox, going against that guy from the 12th precinct whose only really good game this year was against the Sox.

This year's crop of kisses
Don't seem as sweet to me
This year's crop just misses
What kisses used to be
This year's new romance
Doesn't seem to have a chance
Even helped by Mr. Moon above
This year's crop of kisses is not for me
For I'm still wearing last year's love

Good season or bad, relative success or abject failure, it's still baseball, Red Sox baseball. And in three days the baseball season will be over for the home town team, which is indeed sad. So I'll enjoy these three games because it's Red Sox baseball, and I won't be able to say that again for six more months. So here's to Red Sox baseball.

If they sweep, they will match the 2006 team W-L record. Crazy that's their theoretical peak given the expectations after last year's magical run. Shit happens, though, and I'm with Norm, mediocre Red Sox baseball beats no baseball by a long stretch. Go Sox.

ETA: for draft pick placement purposes, there are only three other teams within the band of the Sox' potential final win total. The Sox and Mets have 83. The Cubs and Diamondbacks have 82.

the owners' comments about not wanting to spend have cast a pall over this final weekend of 2019 at Fenway.

These roster adds they've made during the season haven't impressed me. They've all had a couple of good moments but that's about it. I'm underwhelmed.

Who is this kid in the booth. What's his experience? He seems so relaxed.
Edit: apparently if I had been listening, I would have heard that he has tons of experience in Pawtucket.

pretty uncomfortable with Kennedy & Werner trying to sell us on 2020. injuries were the only reason?

how did that not get out? this team was so damn unlucky.
Part of it is payback for 2018, which rode a frothy wave of luck to a high-water mark. Remember all those grand slams?

Another part of it is forward credit for 2020, which will at some time need to cash in something of value.

The rest is just old-fashioned, single-season bad luck.

Eovaldi showed some fortitude there keeping his ERA under 6.00. momentum going into 2020.
