Let’s see, of all the lab experiments still going on as the Yankees begin their final week of the regular season, this is what we know:
Dellin Betances is not coming back.
Luis Severino makes another start today and looks like he’s on track to take a rotation spot. Which is good because Domingo German lost control of his life for a few hours and is done for the season, at least.
Giancarlo Stanton seems to be warming up.
Edwin Encarnacion is a few days away.
Gary Sanchez might return in time for the playoffs.
CC is coming out of the bullpen when the playoffs begin. A LOOGY, or more?
Aaron Judge looks like his old self.

There’s a game today at 1:05.

5 straight offspeed pitches from Severino to Smoak to get him, two sliders then three straight changeups.

Yankees taking advantage of their last regular season home game to try to make a run at the team home run title, 4 up now.

Gardner leading the AL with HRs in September with 9, we all saw that coming.

Severino is almost certainly done now, 80 pitches through 5.

5 3 0 0 0 9

Stanton with mostly very good ABs since coming back, that one he got down 0-2, worked the count to 3-2, and then blasted a ball to the warning track for a sacrifice fly.

If Voit could get going, I feel like we'd really be firing on all cylinders.

Edit: Or Did.

Back in June, Paxton’s ERA for the month was 7.15 and Sevy was a question mark and not certain to return this year. Fast forward to September, and these two are absolutely phenomenal.

Sano and Cruz with 3 HRs between them in the first 4 innings today, NY's HR lead is back to 1, MIN with a game and a half more to play.

NY finishes the regular season at home with the home series streak intact, I think 23 straight series now, 20-0-3.

NY clinches finishing ahead of MIN with this win, so now it's just a question of the final order for the top 3 teams.

HOU 102-54
NYY 102-55
LAD 100-56

NY wins the tiebreaker with LAD and loses it with HOU, so this is very likely the final order of these three.

Excellent work, Jon. Thanks to your research last week on the probably matchups for the 2 seed, I have not sweated the outcomes of Yankee games ever since. Nice to see them play well anyway. Stanton is such a wild card! Imagine if he does some damage, and Judge does, too. DJ at the top, doing what he does. Maybe this lineup will hit elite pitching.
