Boston sends 2017 first-round pick Tanner Houck, 24 years old, against Yankees’ prospect Deivy Garcia, still just 21, in a 1:05 p.m. game today at Fenway. Houck, who throws in the mid-90s and features a killer slider, made his MLB debut last week with five scoreless innings against Miami. Garcia, a four-pitch hurler with great poise, has started four games so far, going 2-1 with a 3.28 ERA. The Dominican Republic native has played a key role in New York‘s comeback from a 5-15 stretch in this abbreviated season. Both young men are psyched for today’s game, as only promising rookies can be.

There are a lot of historical numbers at work in the Red Sox-Yankee rivalry with today’s game but we’re going to skip over the stats. The Yankees, and especially Aaron Boone, seem understanding of the key injuries and trade of Mookie Betts that have dropped Boston into last place. The priority for New York is to keep winning and get home field over Minnesota for the first round of the playoffs. Boston is just one game that kicks off the final week of the regular season. It goes without saying that the Red Sox want to win this game at all costs, mostly for their own pride.

Ten game winning streak:

7-2
6-0
10-1
2-1
3-1
20-6
13-2
10-7
6-5
8-0

85-25 total

I doubt Higashioka will start again today, but worth noting that NY has only allowed 3 runs total in the last 4 games he has started, 2 by Cole and 2 by Happ. If Happ is the third starter, does Higgy start his postseason games too?

My guess is no because Happ’s preponderance of fast balls up in the zone is easier to handle.

Hope Deivi has his curveball back today, he barely threw it last game after one got hammered.

JBJ doubles off wall leading off second. Chavis homers. 2-0. Curveball that just spun into middle of plate. Eck has not been impressed with Deivi’s curveball.

Garcia is mediocre today, topping off at 91, reluctant to throw his curve. Remy thinks he is tipping his changeup although nobody has hit it hard yet. Meanwhile, Yankee defense has not been helpful. DJ couldn’t snare a liner from Devers that went off his glove. Sanchez is sloppy behind the plate. It’s 3-0 in the third and Garcia just went over 60 pitches.

They need a spot starter tomorrow, not so easy to cover innings right now.

This should forfeit the game to NY, seems like the obvious move. On to Buffalo!

"I know nothing !" was Sgt Schultz's line. In real life he was played by John Banner... an Austrian Jew who survived a Nazi concentration camp, the actor who played the Frenchman was Robert Clarty... a French Jew who also survived a concentration camp. Finally Col Klink was played by Wener Klemperer the son of the famous German Jew conductor Otto Klemperer, who survived by fleeing to Switzerland and wound up in London ....

Leon Askin (Gen. Burkalter) and Howard Caine (Maj. Hochstetter) were both Jewish as well. Askin, Caine, Banner, and Klemperer were members of the US military in WWII and who are you talking too?

I think cranky @Couperin47 should start us up again after Terry's incredible streak came to an end, he is our clear #2 this year.

Michael King vs Matt Shoemaker, King may never get another shot to start because the guys behind him are moving up fast. So make it count, Mike!
