A third straight day game in the Bronx. ESPN, 1:05 start, Tanaka vs. lefty Mike Minor of the Texas Rangers.

We have another month of meaningless games to play, a chance to enjoy this team before Judgement Day arrives in October.

Weather looks pretty lousy for the scheduled starting time. I was going to take the kids in for this one, but a few drops of rain is all the excuse I need to bail on that.

No start time still, NY just announced. They're going to play, just a question of when.

I am watching PawSox in their final 2019 game. Found former Yankee Jose Pirela here, the guy from the AWS commercial on YES. And Shane Robinson,.

Look who’s back tomorrow or Wednesday:

“Edwin Encarnación is packed up and heading back to New York. Said his RailRiders rehab assignment is over.

“I feel good. I feel healthy. I feel 100 percent. Ready to go,” he said.””

wow, ESPN will NOT skip the game...
You send Ravich and the A crew to Yankee Stadium, you're going to use them...
Yankees get priority for national telecasts over every other major league team, by a lot. I don’t have any stats on that, just noticed it over the years looking for national telecasts of Red Sox games. I’d love to see some counts by team of nationally televised games.

82 pitches through 6 for Minor, it'd be nice if they could get him out of there but that's not looking likely until maybe the 9th.

I figured they were going to hold Green and Cortes Jr to start on Wednesday in CC's spot, I wonder who will get that now.

It seems, perhaps for good reason, that Boone doesn't mind losing games at this point.
Lindsay Adler at The Athletic just published (like, an hour ago) a piece about exactly this, the balance now between trying to win and trying to set up your team as best possible going forward.

https://theathletic.com/1179645/2019/09/02/yankees-can-play-the-balance-game-in-september-juggling-a-desire-to-win-with-a-chance-to-rest/ (pay site, well worth it if you can)

The end of that Athletic piece:

====================

But despite the comfortable position, Boone says their preparation for October won’t necessarily mean taking the foot off the gas pedal.

“Obviously we wanna try and win the East first and foremost,” Boone said. “But then that carrot of having the best record matters. To potentially have home-field advantage matters. We’re very good here. We’re very good playing at home. Hopefully we will secure that so I pay attention to it, but it doesn’t change anything about how we go about our day-to-day. We’re trying to be our best over this final month to put us in a really good position.”

Another guy who is only on the roster to get DFAd shows why.

Non-shutout streak is over, first time NY has been shut out since Chris Sale and BOS beat Sonny Gray 11-0 last June 30.

I missed the game but want to contribute despite basing everything off the box score. Tanaka’s line looks very good, and he continues progressing positively. Cortes Jr. is, however, going in the opposite direction as his awful August is continuing into September. Get 'em tomorrow.

I believe it, the Cowboys have similar treatment in the NFL.

Ooh, I haven't seen this rumored anywhere yet but I wonder if the plan for Wednesday is to activate Jordan Montgomery and give him 45-50 pitches to start the game. He threw 35 pitches in AAA on Friday, so he is perfectly lined up. I thought it would be another Green/Cortes Jr start but Nestor going today means they are doing something else, maybe it is our old buddy Jordan returned at last. His last appearance for NY was May 1 of last season, then TJS, but he has been throwing in Tampa for months before starting rehab games a week or two ago. That would be exciting...
