It’s possible Aaron Judge returns tonight as Yanks have already sent Thairo Estrada back to Scranton. Boone might not use him in tonight’s middle game of three against Toronto. That’s his call. But when he does put Judge back in RF, Yanks will be at full strength.
Gerrit Cole vs. Tanner Roark (5.60 ERA) tonight. The Jays do not have a lot of quality pitching to throw at New York this week. But you never know what’s going to happen in baseball, Suzyn. Starting pitching is suddenly a strength for the Yankees. Quality starts night after night are the foundation of winning baseball.

Judge should start this one but Stanton will sit, they said that already yesterday. Thursday could be the full strength game, but very excited to see Judge again.

Six game winning streak:

7-2
6-0
10-1
2-1
3-1
20-6

48-11 total

Yeah the Yanks look to be rounding into form. Their lull may best be explained by not having the Red Sox to look forward to on their schedule over the last few weeks.

Strange season. Haven’t thought much about the Red Sox since Yanks last played them. Tampa has assumed their role as team to beat.

Judge back, Stanton sits (as planned), Gleyber still not back.

Also worth noting that with Judge back, Clint shifts to the larger LF, where he has only played 5 innings this year.

LeMahieu 2B
Judge RF
Hicks CF
Voit 1B
Urshela 3B
Frazier LF
Sánchez DH
Wade SS
Higashioka C

Rays down 2-1 with two outs in bottom of ninth until Lowe homers to tie it. Top of 10th, Garcia hits 2-run homer off Nick Anderson.
Rays a little vulnerable lately.

Rays lose, relevant teams to NY:

TB 31-18
MIN 30-20
NY 27-21
TOR 26-21
CLE 26-22

If NY catches TB (pretty unlikely), they are a top 3 seed. If they catch MIN while staying ahead of TOR/CLE, they are the #4 seed. Either way, they would get the first three game series in NY, which would be nice since they are 19-7 at home and 8-14 on the road.

Fisher went on the IL along with Ken Giles, Teoscar Hernandez was activated and he was one of their best few hitters before going out.
Fisher must have been having vision problems. Last night, he looked like the right fielder on my LL team.

Thanks, Jon. No. 4 seed looks as good as the top 3 seeds.

DJ with his fifth leadoff homer. Judge fans on a 3-2 inside fastball. Voit gets the same pitch on 3-2 and fouls it off, eventually flies out to CF on 10th pitch of AB.

Yeah, if Higgy gets his barrel on a pitch, he has home run power. Not a bad backup catcher. Seems like he is now Cole’s personal catcher. Takes some pressure off Sanchez, who has a lot on his mind just with defense. Abbey has said this before but the Yanks have done so much work with Gary’s defensive issues, it may have hurt his hitting mindset.

Clint turns on an inside fast ball, whips his bat through the zone, and sends it far over the fence in left. O’Neill marvels at the bat speed.

DJ with his second homer to right, this one 10 rows up.

Roark still in there, down 6-0. It’s like the Jays are forfeiting these games.

Judge is doing what Stanton did last night, getting his work in, striking out, enjoying being back with his teammates.

When you going to start enjoying this team again?
Probably next year (unless asshole creep Manfred actually manages to make the infuriating 10th inning auto man on 2nd rule permanent...he will not rest til he permanently ruins the game). It's not the the team that really annoys me, it's how he is screwing with the whole sport.

That one was for Coup. :)

He barely missed one in the AB in between too.

When a team starts hitting like this one has the last two nights, it can loosen up a struggling batter like Sanchez.

NY has 11 HRs in 14 innings in this series as of now. That seems good.

12 now, 31 runs in 14 innings.

First time NY ever homered six times in consecutive games.

Villar broke up the no-hitter in the 6th on a first pitch changeup, next time up he got a first pitch 99 (on Cole's 93rd pitch).

Three pitch strikeout, 99 looking down the middle to end it on his 95th pitch. Looks like he's done now.

I had a sports writer once, Jim Salisbury, who played second base at PC. Cocky guy. When he was covering the Phillies in spring training one year, he asked Billy Wagner if he could catch him as he warmed up. They might have had a bet on whether Jim could put a glove on Billy’s slider. He lost. The ball just disappeared on Jim. Seeing that Cole heater go by Higgy’s glove and crash into the umpire’s mask reminded me of Jim’s story. Unless you can stand at the plate, you have no idea how fast those baseballs are traveling, especially someone like me who stopped playing after legion ball.

Alltime team record for HRs in a game is 8, a few times. NY has 7 with an inning left.

How much of this is the Yankees peaking ... or Toronto sucking?
They shut down the Orioles all last weekend too, only allowing 3 runs total in 4 games, then the Orioles scored 10 in the first 3 innings in their next game against ATL.
