So this affiliate sends its ENTIRE starting rotation to the majors (Barnes, Webster, RDLR, Ranaudo & Wright) plus its top two LHRPs (Layne, Britton), an RHRP (Wilson), two catchers (Vazquez & Butler), a Swiss Army Knife (Rivero), and some kid named Mookie Betts.

And they STILL win the International League crown.

Incredible. Congrats to Kevin Boles, his coaches, and the entire Red Sox player development staff.
I was thinking about how many guys on the opening day roster were on the roster tonight.  It takes a village to raise a AAA championship.

Was at the game tonight. A few thoughts:

  • Lavarnway's homer was a no doubter that was absolutely crushed.
  • Castillo worked some solid ABs and the ball was coming off his bat nicely. He was cleanly picked off second, but hustled and out-ran the tag into third. A more competent MLB third baseman would have likely had him. Castillo was also caught stealing pretty easily when he ran on a ~98 MPH fastball. He looked aggressive, for better or worse, as he may be a liability on the bases.
  • The scorer was awfully generous, giving the PawSox two "hits" that I would have deemed errors.
  • On the Bulls side, Enny Romero was a LHP who hit 99 MPH multiple times. His numbers this year appear to be underwhelming. Still, I have to think he'll get all the chances in the world with that simple combination of handedness and velocity.
  • If Tim Beckham was not drafted 1-1 a handful of years back, he would not even be at Triple-A. He has to be the biggest first overall bust since the Matt Bush fiasco a decade ago.

The Portland Sea Dogs, your International League Champions. Not that far from the truth.
Exactly - a great 88 win Portland season en route to winning the Governors Cup! PCL winner playoff aside, this has been one of the greatest and memorable of Sox minor league seasons, highlighted by last night, Portland's great season, and even a GCL championship
