So with the rainout today, we've got an old school doubleheader starting at 1 PM, Happ vs. Boyd in game 1 and CC/German vs. Turnbull in game 2.

Good off day for NY, not only did they get the day of rest in scenic Detroit, but the Astros, Dodgers, Twins and Rays all lost.

NY 95-51
HOU 95-52
LAD 94-53
MIN 89-56
TB 87-60

Terry wrote in the other thread:

Do the Yanks have enough bullpen guys for such a marathon? Or position players. No way any regular should play both games.
They have 17 position players currently active, they could start all 17 in the 2 games. Higashioka homered twice in his last game up (August 7 in BAL) and had 21 in just 253 ABs in AAA, he should get some starts down the stretch as they have to make decisions on him and Romine after the season (they could maybe save a 40 man spot and just go with 2 catchers if Kratz agrees to a minor league deal again, pick one of those two and let the other go). Voit needs to start hitting homers again if he wants to be in the postseason lineup, right now I think he is the odd man out (DJ at 1B, Encarnacion at DH).

And I think they have 17 pitchers available today counting the starters, 16 plus Tarpley is supposed to be back for this. He has had a pretty terrible season overall but with a couple of really memorable games, June 9 in CLE when NY used all four back-end guys and Didi booted the potential final out in the 9th, tying the game. Hicks (pours one out) doubled in Maybin with the go-ahead run in top 10 and NY was forced to go to Tarpley who struck out three in a row starting with Santana for the save. Also he had a 3 1 0 0 0 6 game against COL on July 19, so there's definitely potential there, he is yet another possibility for the final spot on the postseason staff depending on how he looks the next few weeks.

Also, FREE BEN HELLER!!

This will be NY’s 7th doubleheader this season, and they are 11-1 in the first 6, sweeping BAL/KC/TB/BOS/BAL again and splitting with the Mets.

Tarpley activated for today as expected, Montgomery may be the starter Sunday (although I think his case is more to get back in a game before next season), Severino is starting the first game of the homestand on Tuesday (!!!) and Betances gets one more game in AA today or tomorrow.

Happ escapes again, still 4-0 after 4.

NY only has two hits off Boyd, the two home runs.

Judge on base all four times so far, an error on a really hard hit ball that easily could have been scored a hit, and three walks.

Also Didi had two homers in the game before this, DJ is actually the one hurting them the last week or so, 4 for his last 28.
