Dear Gio,

We are big fans of yours. The superb defense was expected, but the timely hitting and overall offensive output has been a really nice surprise. Well, a surprise for most of us. Not much surprises Abbey. Anyway, we hope you are feeling better after getting dinged a couple of times by foul balls. I bet it hurts just a little bit less when you win.

Keep up the good work.

Appreciatively,

EE and the SOSH Yankees Fans

He really is such a stud, but I bet Boone sits him tomorrow even if Gleyber is out.

"Gio Urshela said he was fine. And yet both of his legs were wrapped in bandages, making his legs so stiff he couldn’t bend them to put on his sweatpants. Insisted he’d be OK to play in Baltimore tomorrow."

No idea who will start on Tuesday, not sure I even have a guess. Cortes Jr as the long guy on 2 days rest after 44 pitches? Yikes.

Exhale?

"Gleyber's father posted this. Translation: "After tonight's scare, GT is leaving the hospital and everything is fine, the bus awaits and they go straight to Baltimore.""-Bryan Hoch

"Después del susto de esta noche, GT está saliendo del hospital y todo está bien, lo espera el bus y van directo a Baltimore"-Gleyber's dad

This isn't really a game thread post but I don't feel like starting a new thread, and really it should go in the Sunday thread but I'm doing it here, sorry...

So 4 games in about 53 hours, I want to go back a bit and do some overview stuff on the just concluded series. The main reason for this is that NY won each of the games largely on one huge offensive inning in the first 4 (game 3 less so as they had to break a tie late) and I am curious about the player overlap in those 4 rallies, so I thought since I am going to do it, I might as well post it.

game 1: 4-2 NY (4 run 1st)

LeMahieu single
Judge walk
Encarnacion walk
Hicks pop out
Gleyber GS

game 2: 9-2 NY (7 run 4th)

Encarnacion single
Torres fly out
Urshela single (with ump help)
Maybin pop out
Higashioka single
Valera single
Gardner single
LeMahieu HR
Judge double
Encarnacion single

game 3: 6-4 NY (3 run 3rd)

Gleyber HR
Hicks single
Urshela single
Maybin 2 run double

game 4: 7-4 NY (6 run 3rd)

Gleyber K
Judge walk
Didi fly out
Urshela HR
Gardner double
Maybin double
Ford single
Higashioka double
Tauchman single

So no one positively contributed to all four, I think just Judge and Gio in three. Higashioka kept the two biggest ones going with two-out hits, love the 2019 Yankees.

Don't mind if either miss a day or two, just hoping to avoid more IL stints. Sanchez should be back next series, by the way, a couple of rehab games and then he will join them in TOR.

Yay Gleyber!

This Orioles team has been playing pretty well in the last month, 14-12 in their last 26.

Romine has a 1.172 OPS since Sanchez went out, 7 for 19 with 2 HRs and 3 BBs.

With the most recent injuries, I figured Sanchez would get pressed back into service sooner. Romine and Higashioka playing well enough that the Yankees can afford to send him out on a rehab assignment is nice. Hopefully he can find his stroke.

Didi flies out to left center, but has a really good AB doing it. Nice to see with the nagging injury to his hand.

Yeah, I don't think that is close to true, he's got a lousy arm, he turns 31 in November and he has a .625 career OPS (and is still at just .696 this year even with this hot streak).

That was another case of this team executing fundamental baseball. Orioles sent a runner from first. Didi cut off the throw and gunned down the runner at home.

I'm half kidding after the Francisco Cervelli experience. Either way, last inning's D counteracted the homer.

Nice throw!

Ben McDonald is the color man on MASN tonight. I remember all kinds of 90s guys, especially from the O's since I moved here in 94, but I do not remember him at all.

Tauchman is incredible.
