We could theoretically have Sanchez and Didi and Clint in the lineup for this.

LeMahieu 1B
Judge RF
Gleyber 2B
Didi SS
Sanchez C
Frazier DH
Urshela 3B
Tauchman CF
Maybin LF

Pregame today mentioned that Sanchez might do a rehab before joining. Think it was Flaherty who said it.

The real question with Yankee injuries is who can they not afford to lose? Who is not replaceable? Because they have already covered extended losses of Didi, Judge, Severino, Betances, Sanchez, Hicks, Gardner, Stanton and Frazier.

When it comes to October, I don’t think they can afford to lose DJ, Torres, Gio and the four core relievers. They obviously need to get a few of the injured healthy again, especially EE, Voit, Seve and Betances. It would be nice to get Hicks back but both Gardner and Tauchman can cover for him in CF.

I am tempted to say Tauchman is indispensable, too.

Our theme song this year is clearly:

RAINY DAY MEN # 27 & 68 Everyone Must get injured
With this team, I am thinking a hard rain is going to fall in October. But as a fan, I have come to believe the pennant race really matters. We will spend six months following this team, enjoying the highs and enduring the lows. This season has been so enjoyable, in part because the injuries have allowed some lesser lights to shine. Do those memories all wash away when the storm comes?
2019 is the year DJ LeMahieu put on pinstripes for the first time. He is a player cut from the mold of Paul O’Neill’s Yankees. The Yankees got caught up in buying flawed stars after 2001. This guy is a throwback who changed the culture of the offense. His versatility impacted the defense. It only seemed fitting when Gio Urshela took over third base, and Gleyber filled in at short for Didi. Or when Tauchman hit .423 in July on his second time around.
There is a long way to go. I think most of us know this team’s pitching is not built for October. But they are a team that fights for everything. I do not count them out.

I agree with this, and really, with all of your post. I'm focused on enjoying the ride. As obstacles mount, I expect them to eventually run out out of gas and fall short of a championship. If they somehow overachieve and win it all, it will be so much sweeter. If they don't, it won't diminish my love for this team one bit.

Totally agree, that's why I already suggested that, after just over half a season, he already seems better equipped to wear a "C" than Aaron...

I’ll post something that Britton said that was restated by the YES crew on Friday night.

Britton said when he played for the Orioles they had a 3-game set with Detroit and faced Verlander, Scherzer and Price and the lowly Orioles swept the Tigers.

So anything can happen in October, and if Paxton continues to pitch like he did on Friday and if German continues to pitch like he’s done all year and the lineup continues to be productive then that’s a good position to be in. And speaking of lineups, it’s remarkable that it can absorb 3 slumping batters at the same time and still put of plenty of runs.

Yeah, that Astros team is not invincible, but long way to go before that possible matchup.

Curious to see what moves happen today, Happ needs to be activated but they can't really send Tarpley down with everyone else being used yesterday. Cessa should be OK now as he is on full rest again, maybe just Happ for Hicks? Clint Frazier isn't playing in AAA today but he is in the clubhouse (NY gets an extra year of control on him if they keep him down a few more weeks, I believe).

Not sure if DJ would want it. Seems like a low-key personality who sets the tone on the field, and in small gestures, like when he snatched the line drive at first yesterday, took a glance at the runner, and then turned around to step on the bag. So Old School.

Keep him down and get the extra year. This team is proving that pennants are won with 35 players, not 25.

Doesn’t seem like Gardner would retire on a season like this one, both personally and as a teammate unwilling to give up the competition.

If Tauchman would ever cool off, we might get an idea what kind of player he is.

Yep, Happ activated, Hicks on the DL, only moves so far. Didi is back, DJ sits, Sanchez is not activated:

2B Torres
DH Judge
SS Gregorius
3B Urshela
CF Gardner
RF Maybin
1B Ford
C Higashioka
LF Tauchman

That's a truly strange lineup. Oh well, let's win.

Terry was talking about NY's depth above, this afternoon Scranton came back from 3-0 down in the 1st to win 12-5. They did that without Ford, Valera and Clint (sitting today after nine straight games) who have been carrying them, four hits from our boy Thairo and six RBIs from fourth-string catcher (and 2018 NL playoff hero) Erik Kratz.

Thairo is going to have a solid big league career somewhere. He is exactly the type of young blood Boston needs but that’s not going to happen.

I like Thairo a lot too (no idea why he doesn't get love on prospect lists still, he was already good in the bigs!!) but BOS does not need him as they have arguably the best SS/3B combo going forward (Bogaerts/Devers) and Chavis looks pretty promising too.

NY is 39-12 since mid-April at home, including 7-1 against BOS. They seem quite unlikely to win this one, besides the 'huh' lineup above, Happ is starting and Chapman/Britton/Kahnle are all presumably not available as they pitched the last two days and NY never uses guys three days in a row.

Also, NY at full strength owns Price but all of the guys who own him specifically (Sanchez, Voit, Andujar) are out. But that's why they play the games...

Also this is the third time this year that one of these teams has tried to finish a sweep of the other on Sunday night, the first two went to the other team.

I was thinking second base, obviously.

A lack of basic competency in the outfield made the call easier. I wonder how diligent he has been putting in extra work to improve that.
I read a story recently where he talked about all the hard work he was putting in on defense and how he realized now how important it is. The response seemed programmed. But he did detail how he had learned a technique to keep his eyes from bouncing as he ran in the outfield. Most outfielders learn how to keep their head still in legion ball.

Why isn't Frazier getting a chance?
You got some answers already, there's the extra year of control, the defensive ineptitude, but also even just as a pure offensive weapon, he hasn't been anything special in AAA. Both Mike Ford (leading the IL in OPS) and Breyvic Valera have better offensive numbers in AAA, and Ford gives them a backup 1B to LeMahieu where Clint would be a 5th outfielder who they don't really trust to play there currently

Benny just got under one, skies out to medium right. He looks at the sky after catch is made. Missed it by that much!

Agree with all of this but there is clearly some ire about it. Fans are calling into radio shows saying how cruel the Yankees are being to him. If there's any way to listen to WFAN from 6:15pm tonight, a fan called in saying "the yankees are being reverse racists by keeping him down because they want more diversity." People are getting stupid.

Devers grounds to first to end top of third, stranding two. He almost smashes his helmet into ground after Happ beats him to first by a half-step. Very frustrated.
