Utd up by a goal at Southampton at the half. Utd look shaky at the back, Saints have looked occasionally dangerous but don't have a spark.

James with the goal. Third in four games. Kid looks good. Still not sold on the Red Devils, sum is less than the whole of the parts IMO.

Potentially a big problem for City as Laporte looks to have blown his knee. Getting stretchered off but this is football he may be back next week lol.

Shame for him as he’s been great and just got called back in for France

Diop just shutting off all access to Pukki, he's had maybe 3 touches all match and no chances

The Grealish call is one of the worst I’ve ever seen all things considered. Friend shouldn’t ref in the top flight again

Salah with a great run and so close. A heavy touch off the thigh, but he still almost steered into the far post.

Liverpool have been aggressive, though a bit sloppy, with the ball in midfield. Burnley men working hard and staying well organized.

TAA chips the keeper! Or miss hits a cross? Who knows? Who cares!

Edit: Replay shows that the ball glanced off a Burnley defender. But Trent will tell you it was a shot.

And as I type this, Mane slots home on a quick counter. 2-0.

Second Edit: Looks like the first is being ruled an own goal on Chris Wood.

Rio Ave upset Sporting today 3-2, overturning a 2-1 deficit.

Of note for me, Iranian forward Mehdi Taremi is off to an interesting / highly productive start. He drew three separate penalties off former Liverpool centerback Sebastian Coates, with the final one getting Coates sent off and securing the go-ahead goal in the 92nd minute for Rio Ave. Taremi also drew penalties in each of Rio Ave’s first two matches, bringing him to 5 in 3 matches thus far. He’s also better 3 goals and provided an assist to date.

With Jahanbakhsh seemingly on the outs at Brighton, Taremi and Zenit’s Sardar Azmoun have been reasons for optimism for Team Melli

Wolves / Everton was appointment viewing for me this morning and although they were both crap goals it hasn’t disappointed early

Although the shaky Everton defense has me worried and the Wolves goal was crap this is a fantastic game so far

They just talked about it a bit but Moise Kean's ball control needs to improve if he's going to become something special. Ball is way out of his feet and too easy for top level defenders to get away. He works hard and has a bit of a tenacity about him, though

Spurs team: Lloris (C), Sanchez, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose, Winks, Sissoko, Eriksen, Lamela, Son, Kane

Arsenal team: Leno, Maitland-Niles, Sokratis, Luiz, Kolasinac, Xhaka, Torreira, Guendouzi, Pepe, Lacazette, Aubameyang.

Poch finally starts both Eriksen and Vertonghen, but who knows what formation Spurs are playing. Back 4 with Sanchez at RB? Back 3 with Sissoko as RWB? How will the midfield line up, which looks rather thin? Surprised to see Lamela starting again (a good nod for first yellow card of the match). GLC, Dele, Moura on the bench. Dele must still not be fully fit because otherwise he'd for sure be starting.

Interesting that Arsenal have dropped Ceballos, and that they're playing all 3 of their forwards but no real creative midfielder. It looks like they expect to play very directly and try to get the ball to the front 3 in space.

Meanwhile I like Kane/Son/Eriksen's chances against the Arsenal back 4. The biggest gap between the teams right now is that Spurs just have much better defenders. Toby/Jan far outclass Arsenal's CBs.

What's interesting about this game is that both of these teams have weaknesses but both also have enough quality to capitalize on the other's weaknesses. I don't see either side being able to exert extended control over the game.

I’m certainly biased, but the ref clearly blew the whistle immediately before the shot. What else could he do at that point?

Great day in jkempa-world. Palace is in 4th and Union defeated Dortmund (!) 3-1 at home!

It does appear that Arsenal is hedging against their shaky defense by starting all three of their defensive midfielders, which is why they've left out Ceballos.

Can't wait for Tierney, Holding and Bellerin to be back.

Emery favors less talented players who come back on defense so that, at least with arsenal, he’s always playing a weaker side than possible in favor of that d..instead of playing his strongest side. Today he’s playing his strongest three forwards and sitting his two best passing mids so that his offense again gets no service.

Lol at all the Arsenal supporters who thought signing Luiz would stabilize their back line.

I don’t feel like I’ve seen a lot of that.. I think most figured he couldn’t be worse than mustafi.

LOL at you completely making shit up.

Went through all the Arsenal fan posts in this forum on Luiz when the transfer happened, pretty much all said they're not big fans of Luiz and hope he's better than the shit that Mustafi has been.

What the hell was Xhaka doing there? Gary Neville going in on Xhaka - 'I don't think i've ever watched a match where Xhaka doesn't give away 50 fouls in a half. 'An experienced player who never looks experienced.'

We don't have anyone who can do the first one and the one guy we have who does the 2nd one is sick or under house arrest or hanging out with a dictator or something.

Fucking clown show. Imagine thinking Emery wasn't completely in over his head.
What do you want him to do? The team created more and better opportunities the entire half and gave up goals by shitty players. I'd love him to staple Xhaka to the bench or ship him out, but right now the weaknesses are in the roster to me.

I'm with you on Luiz. I've never been a massive fan, but I think he's the perfect stop gap to Saliba, and allows them to sell Mustafi. Not to mention he's an absolute steal at 8m, comes from a rival for the top 4 l, who's unable to replace him. He also absolutely excels at the long transition ball. One of the best in the league, which could be wonderful linking up to Pepe, Aubamayeng, Lacazette and Ceballos this season.
