I think those were only the second and third curves Britton threw all inning, pitches 26 and 27. Whoever called that first one, kudos because it seemed to really fuck with Devers from the closeups.

We need a long AB from Brett for Chapman to actually get warm for once.

Chapman is NY's 7th pitcher in nine innings, all relievers.

That was a strike, good to see 98 to start though.

I was scared to say it but NY had nothing left if this went to extra innings, Tarpley, Holder after 2 innings in game 1 and Cessa after 50 pitches on 3 days rest. Thankfully they finished it, nice day.

I was thinking this towards the end - bullpen game means extra innings would've been ugly. Got away with it.

Also it would be the best semi-surprise transaction since Clemens showing up midseason if NY activates Sanchez to face Price tomorrow. He has 6 HRs in 16 ABs against Price, 2.244 OPS. That makes Gary the grandpa of Price's new kid, for those keeping track at home. :)

Red Sox have now lost the same amount of games as they have in all of 2018. On August 3rd.

On NESN, Steve Lyons just praised Gleyber, adding, “He doesn’t have a real position, is not a good defensive player, and that is why he does not play every day.” Nice homework.

The metrics on him have not been good, but he is still pretty inexperienced at 2B, he never played it in the minors and he has had to play a lot of SS this year. I think he has all the tools to be a defensive weapon at 2B (and he has been solid at SS), focus seems to be an issue at times but he is so young (younger than half of NY's high A Tampa roster).

Oh man, this should be the Clint Frazier move. It never stops!

"Aaron Hicks hurt his elbow on the throw to third from the outfield. He’ll get an MRI tomorrow, and the Yankees will know more then, Aaron Boone says. "

I thought the “not an every day player” was where Lyons came up short.

As for Gleyber’s D, he looked very focused and fundamentally sound at shortstop the past two days while filling in for Didi.

At this point, Yanks can show off their organizational depth while getting regulars ready for October. Frazier is one candidate. Thairo Estrada is ready for an encore if Didi needs rest.

Happy to see wins, but I hope they don't turn out to be Pyrrhic victories. I know we've already lost EE for a good long while. I'm concerned that losing Hicks for significant time pushes the team that much closer to a tipping point that they won't be able to recover from.
