Sox hit the "refresh" button. A day off. A little distance from the Trade Deadline stress and from the sweep in Tampa. Detroit should be the perfect morning tonic to the hangover.
I'll be here in Austin, TX for two more days then heading home to visit parents in Vermont for the first time in 2 years. I expect to still be starting game threads between now and when I return to TX two weeks later.

If on the night before opening day, you'd have offered me 1 game out on 8/3, having just been buyers at the deadline, I'd have signed on in a heartbeat. Wipe the slate clean, shake off the weekend, and start another hot streak tonight. Win.

Austin and Boston rhyme. Detroit doesn't.
Austin and Boston are nice. Detroit is, well, Detroit.
One of these things isn't like the others. Let's see 'em lose!

Mr. Trotsky, I've been meaning to ask you for a while now: what is the apparatus that appears in your avatar? Just curious.

It’s an old cast iron train depot chair frame. I scored about 100 of them and built some cool seating at a bar that my friends own here in Austin.

Wily "Coyote" Peralta, RHP going for Detroit. Every right hander the Sox face I'm going to wish they had Schwarber in the lineup. His splits are .976 - 736 vs. RHP and LHP, respectively. Not horrible vs. LHP either.

Yep. And buyers without giving up the farm.

Ya know, the Motor City is burning babe,
there ain't a thing in the world that they can do!
First on Facebook but we had some common friends through music and now we're "buds" after chatting some after a show. NOTE- I did not say "friends".... we're "buds". I'd probably have to remind him why he knows me.
I stole the intro guitar from Poison for one of our songs and when he saw us play I mentioned it to him and he was actually flattered...

Any pics of the finished versions you can share?
yeah... my worst trait is my inability to document anything. I don't. Although a new employee is running around getting photos of all the stuff around town we've built over the past 7 years. If you go to the new soccer stadium.... I built all the benches, decks and entry trellises there.

I was born in Boston and raised in the exurbs and now live in suburban Detroit. When I was little the only thing I wanted for my birthday was to go to a Sox game. Today is my birthday and due to the emergence of the Delta variant I’m gonna pass on seeing a game live during this series.
Both of my daughters asked my wife if I wanted tickets— I raised them to be Sox fans.

Win.

I'm planning on bringing the Delta Variant from here in TX up to VT....
Seriously though... I'm really scared about it but I haven't seen my parents in two years. I'm scheduled to get tested tomorrow and will just double-mask on the flight.
My anger at the unvaxxers is unrivaled.

That's fantastic! I love Brother Wayne. I had the pleasure of chatting with him prior to the MC50 show in Boston a couple of years ago. The man couldn't have been more gracious. Took pictures, signed everything I handed to him, answered questions, just a magnificent bloke. My wife said, "OK, we have taken enough of your time...", and Wayne turned to us and said, "If it weren't for people like you, I couldn't be doing this. Thanks for coming". If you haven't read his book, I highly recommend it. He doesn't hold anything back.

Back on topic, it's imperative that the Red Sox defeat the Tigers. Over and over.

I'm not sure I like the idea of putting the kid in the leadoff spot when he's still trying to find his ML legs.
