DALVINSON started for Red Sox Red & allowed an unearned run in 3 IP on 5 hits, 0 bb & 3 k.

Jorge Rodriguez hit a 2-run homer & they are up 2-1 in the 4th.

Portland started the game single, walk, single, walk, single on their way to a 3-run 1st.

But Jacob Webb is listed as the starting pitcher.

I guess Webb opened for Wikelman. He pitched 2 scoreless innings, 2 hits, 3 k.

Wikelman on for the 3rd. Up 3-0.

After 5 1-run innings from Jason Alexander, the WooSox got a scoreless inning each from a rehabbing Cam Booser & Bailey Horn.

& now they're letting the PENGOD eat on back to back nights. With some control issues.

Penrod went walk, steal, strikeout, walk, groundout & left with runners on 2nd & 3rd, 2 out.

Yohan Ramírez in to try to protect Worcester's 2-1 lead.

Yohan allowed a 3-run homer in some sort of attenpt to haze Penrod I assume.

Who needs CATM in Portland when you're winning games 8-0?!

And as mentioned above, W Gonz has been outstanding of late including a much more manageable BB%. But I wonder why he hasn't pitched more than 5 innings all year? Is he being groomed as a reliever already? Even tonight, looks like he came on in relief,

I wasn't clear if this was a Sox system award or MiLB, but it is MiLB. No DSL All-Stars in the system even though the Sox are in the finals, which tracks. The Sox seem to have a lot of somewhat interesting guys this year, with no one to get very excited about. I was going to save this thought for after the season, but I wonder if the smaller domestic reserve list will cause more repeats in the DSL and improve the quality of that league.

It's a bit confusing when they call something an All-Star Team when there is literally an All-Star Game which Justin Gonzales & Anderson Fermin played in (iirc). Should probably just be called an All DSL Team.

It's interesting that several MLB teams only have 1 DSL affiliate. Seems suboptimal. I'm not sure if more people will be held back... & whether the impact of the smaller DRL are outweighed by the earlier FCL season & later draft.

I can't really prove this, but I think the Red Sox moved up some more fungible DSL arms like Cristofer Soriano & Luis Jerez while leaving some slightly more interesting guys like Juan Henriquez & Jose Martinez behind because they would be easier to cut them down if they need the DRL space later but can still provide innings in the FCL in the meantime.

Another thing I think, but can't prove, is that he was struggling so hard early in the year he couldn't get deep into games, & they realized they needed to do something new to get him back to where he needed to be, so they said hey, just pitch hard for 3 innings. So he did that for a while & then they pushed that to a 4th inning after a while, & then fairly recently they pushed him back up to a 5th inning. Whether they go for a 6th inning or not this year, I'm not sure... but generally they only seem to be asking for 5 innings per game out of a lot of their pitchers in the system.

Actually, reviewing the pattern, it's also possible they're just letting him do twice through the order now. The last 2 times out he faced 19 hitters, which is his most since June 9th. He just happened to get most players out & get through 5 both games.

Uberguy pitched 1.1 scoreless innings today with 2 hits & 2 k. Hayden Mullins took over from there.
Mullins ran into trouble in the 6th & JWY exacerbated that trouble by letting all 3 inherited runners score.

Greenville lost 6-4.

On the bright side, I did find the BLEIS home run.

Bleis 1-4, hr, sf, 3 rbi
Riemer 2-4

Here's one of Riemer's hits:

5 ER in 35 IP for Wikelman & 5 in 38 for Duffy. Of course, Duffy is actually 5 months older than Wikelman & 2 levels behind.

Conor Steinbaugh pitched the next 2.2 scoreless. Despite allowing 3 hits, Luis Talavera pitched a scoreless 8th & Salem is up 3-0.
Salem scored 3 in the top of the 9th.

Talavera switched it up in the bottom of the 9th by allowing 0 hits, but walking 2 & hitting a guy. No runs, though.

Salem won 6-0... despite going 5-37 with 1 walk & 17 strikeouts. Delmarva's 5 errors didn't hurt (Salem). 5 of the 6 runs were unearned.

Arias 2-5 (3 k)
Nazzan 0-5 (2 k)
Alcantara/Diaz 1-4, 2b
Rose 1-3, bb

The tale of 2 Wikelman seasons...

Before June 28th
12 G, 39.2 IP, 37 H, 35 ER, 29 BB, 43 K
7.94 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, 6.6 BB/9, 9.8 K/9

Since June 28th
10 G, 35 IP, 15 H, 5 ER, 13 BB, 37 K
1.29 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, 3.3 BB/9, 9.5 K/9
As Ro mentioned, Portland won 8-0.

After Wikelman, Zach Bryant pitched the last 2 innings scoreless on 2 hits & 3 strikeouts - which is the exact same way Webb started the game (except Bryant hit a guy).

Mikey 3-5, 2b
Jhostynxon 3-5
Binelas 2-4, hr, bb
Blaze 2-5
Castro 1-3, bb, sf
Marrero 1-4, sb
Ferguson 0-3, 2 bb
